What Karl Rove Should Tell La Raza
Human Events ^ | 07/10/06 | The Human Events View

Posted on 07/10/2006 5:42:12 PM PDT by garbageseeker

White House adviser Karl Rove is scheduled to speak tomorrow at the annual conference of the federally funded, left-wing, open-borders-advocacy group, the National Council of La Raza.

If he does not want his speech to look like an act of appeasement, he should confront La Raza on its opposition to commonsense policies designed to secure both U.S. borders and U.S. pocketbooks.

La Raza, which means “The Race” in Spanish, has denounced as “horrendous” and “appalling” the House immigration bill passed in December, which was sponsored by Judiciary Chairman James Sensenbrenner (R.-Wis.) and supported by the overwhelming majority of House Republicans. The bill, which calls for tough worksite enforcement of immigration laws and 700 miles of border fencing, was condemned by La Raza as a “laundry list of mean-spirited and intrusive provisions concocted by the most radical immigrations restrictionists in Congress.”

Will Rove defend the immigration reforms passed by President Bush’s party in the House and tell La Raza that House Republicans are neither “mean-spirited” nor “radical”? He should. House Republicans deserve Rove’s support.

It's rather inherent in the speech. The "Brotherhood of Man" he referred to is a result of America. No America, no "Brotherhood of Man".

For you to say the 1986 amnesty wasn't a failure not only strains credulity, it breaks yours. If the 1986 amnesty was a success, why do we have 12-20 million illegals in the US today?

Here's an other favorite of mine:

Forty summers have passed since the battle that you fought here. You were young the day you took these cliffs; some of you were hardly more than boys, with the deepest joys of life before you. Yet you risked everything here. Why? Why did you do it? What impelled you to put aside the instinct for self-preservation and risk your lives to take these cliffs? What inspired all the men of the armies that met here? We look at you, and somehow we know the answer. It was faith, and belief; it was loyalty and love.

The men of Normandy had faith that what they were doing was right, faith that they fought for all humanity, faith that a just God would grant them mercy on this beachhead or on the next. It was the deep knowledge -- and pray God we have not lost it -- that there is a profound moral difference between the use of force for liberation and the use of force for conquest. You were here to liberate, not to conquer, and so you and those others did not doubt your cause. And you were right not to doubt.

You all knew that some things are worth dying for. One's country is worth dying for, and democracy is worth dying for, because it's the most deeply honorable form of government ever devised by man. All of you were willing to fight tyranny, and you knew the people of your countries were behind you.

Ronald Wilson Reagan -- Pointe de Hoc, Normandy, June 6, 1984

---“The president thanked me for being candid and said he would consider my views,” Hayworth writes. “But Rove became somewhat exasperated and spluttered, ‘You just don’t want to help brown people, do you?’”---

---“I have no doubt that when this book is published, I will be pilloried by the elite media — and even by some Republicans,” Hayworth writes. “But when it comes to our border security and illegal immigration, I will not be cowed into inaction because of what ‘namby-pamby’ editorial writers at The New York Times or The Wall Street Journal or even what Karl Rove might say.”---

No the Amnesty worked we got 3 million good Americans many of whom vote GOP today. What didn't work was the enforcement part but that is Reagan's fault so yes he admitted it.

Newp; and I've Googled it.

Let's call in THE PROFESSIONAL.

Hey, kcvl, can you find a quote to back up this statement?

"And we know what Karl Rove said to J.D. Hayworth... "You just have a problem with brown people."

Thanks in advance, kcvl.

It's rather inherent in the speech. The "Brotherhood of Man" he referred to is a result of America. No America, no "Brotherhood of Man".

"Brotherhood of Man" refers to those all around the world.

The truth of the matter is, if we take this crowd and if we could go through and ask the heritage, the background of every family represented here, we would probably come up with the names of every country on earth, every corner of the world, and every race. Here, is the one spot on earth where we have the brotherhood of man. And maybe as we continue with this proudly, this brotherhood of man made up from people representative of every corner of the earth, maybe one day boundaries all over the earth will disappear as people cross boundaries and find out that, yes, there is a brotherhood of man in every corner.

---You just don’t want to help brown people, do you?---

Now there's a tag line, isn't it? Twenty million illegals across a border that leaks like a sieve and he comes up with: "You just don’t want to help brown people, do you?"

The enforcement part WAS PART OF THE 1986 AMNESTY!!!!

This is why there are so many of us who will not go along with ANY non-amnesty amnesty/guest worker/temporary worker or whatever the hell you call it until we have ENFORCEMENT first.

No, your just afraid of the truth.

Anybody who posts the following statement:

Remember, several years ago Trent Lott had to resign his post as Senate Majority Leader because he spoke in front of the Council of Conservative Citizens.

isn't even on a sightseeing associating with the truth.

"If the 1986 amnesty was a success, why do we have 12-20 million illegals in the US today?"

I'll repeat myself...because Congress failed to set in place a mechanism that allowed people to come, work, and go home; A.K.A., a guest worker program.

The 1986 amnesty, coupled with an aggressive guest worker program would have avoided the millions of illegal aliens we have in the country today.

A guest worker program IS border control.

You asked if the Amnesty was a failure I said it wasn't. It worked fine. You may want to choose your words more carefully in the future.
