The Illegal Immigration Emergency: Would a Bill of Impeachment Wake-Up President Bush?
Human Events Online ^ | August 26, 2005 | Patrick Buchanan

On Aug. 12, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson declared a state of emergency "due to a chaotic situation involving illegal alien smuggling and illegal drug shipments" on his southern border. Three days later, Gov. Janet Napolitano followed suit in Arizona.

Reason: the crisis on the border. The ally-ally-in-free immigration policy of George Bush and Vicente Fox, beloved of corporate America, has created a hell on our southern border.

Those Southwestern states are being inundated by illegal aliens trashing ranches, killing cattle, committing crimes and eating up tax dollars. The traffic in narcotics and human beings from Mexico is a national scandal and a human rights disgrace.

What is true of New Mexico and Arizona is true of our nation, which is now home to an estimated 10 million to 15 million aliens who have broken our laws and broken into our country. It is a mark of the cowardice of our . . .

A wall is fine but I rather the Feds prosecute business owners that hire illegals.

The distant past is not in question. Recent events in US history are in question. Things have changed since 9-11. Many Americans believe part of the WOT is to secure our borders to the illegal invasion from Mexico that has been underway and growing for decades.

Face it. On the issue of illegal immigration, the President and the GOP have been asleep at the wheel.

If there is another terrorist attack on US soil that kills more Americans and it can be tied to unsecured borders, PresBush`s approval ratings are going to take a big hit. And many people who now support the President will be hard pressed to continue with that support.

Well, we are being invaded, and the president of the United States is not doing his duty to protect the states against that invasion. Some courageous Republican, to get the attention of this White House, should drop into the hopper a bill of impeachment, charging George W. Bush with a conscious refusal to uphold his oath and defend the states of the Union against "invasion."

Outrageous?

..and shall protect each of them against invasion...

Washington is basically out of control. The political class has run amuck, and is basically doing what it feels like doing...

This President, as witnessed by the continued infiltration of Iraq by Jihadist A$$%oles, seems to have great difficulty with the concept of 'Borders'.

I partial to definition #4 myself:

bor·der   Audio pronunciation of "border" ( P )  Pronunciation Key  (bôrdr)
n.

  1. A part that forms the outer edge of something.
  2. A decorative strip around the edge of something, such as fabric.
  3. A strip of ground, as at the edge of a garden or walk, in which ornamental plants or shrubs are planted.
  4. The line or frontier area separating political divisions or geographic regions; a boundary.

v. bor·dered, bor·der·ing, bor·ders
v. tr.
  1. To put a border on.
  2. To lie along or adjacent to the border of: Canada borders the United States.

v. intr.
  1. To lie adjacent to another: The United States borders on Canada.
  2. To be almost like another in character: an act that borders on heroism.

[Middle English bordure, from Old French bordeure, from border, to border, from bort, border, of Germanic origin.]

Illegal immigration, and curtailing it, in my opinion, is a crucial part of homeland security. I support GWB, but I also must hold him to the same level of accountability I would hold any other politician to; letting him get away with issues that I would hold a Dem responsible for just isn't a consistent way of dealing with the political realm.

isn't it? a general would be court-martialed for dereliction of duty --- even all the way down to the fire-team leader ... if they were derelict in their duties .... busted - or worse if someone was killed.

So what gives politicians a 'carte blanche' for .... how shall I put this .... total ignorance, malfeasance and dereliction of duty?

I would draw up the papers and drop them on his desk and tell him ... "FIX IT OR ELSE!"

Painfull fines for each illegal hire for the first offense and prison time for any offense afterward.

I won't consider impeachment until an attack comes and is proven to be the result of lax border control.

As one of your fellow Americans who would like to do something to prevent the attack from occurring, I say "Gee, thanks."

Would a Bill of Impeachment Wake-Up President Bush?

Another major terrorist attack within the US homeland perpetrated by some who entered illegally -- that would make Bush2's legacy lower than Clinton's, and the bill of Impeachment would probably succeed due to public demand.

I am not so sure that failing to protect our nation's borders from an invasion doesn't rise to that level. But if that is what we are going to do, ten about 90% of Congress ought to be impeached right along with him.

Has anyone else seen a lapel pin the Gov Richardson wears? I can't identify it. Is he worshiping Isis now?

What exactly do you object to in this article?

Pat's praising of Hillary's political posturing on this issue is pretty ridiculous.

Pat writes this:

Why should U.S. citizens be assaulted, robbed, raped and murdered, and have their children molested, because their government will not enforce its own laws?

Is this not an indictment of democracy itself? What dictatorial regime would put up with this?

No it is not an indictment of democracy since Pat correctly pointed out himself Teddy Roosevelt and Eisenhower, both elected would never have tolerated the situation on the border. What we have is bad leadership on this issue. Bush has an open borders agenda and nothing's going to change that until 2008 and a new president.

I'm on your side on this but frankly I can't support impeachment for a potential attack. Can we retroactively Jail Bill Clinton and Bush senior for ignoring the same problem?

"Would 9/11 qualify? They were in our country illegally, with forged documents."

That's interesting because I thought one of the reasons that Atta and the 3 others weren't looked into (ala Able Danger) was because they were here, legally. Any confirmation of this?

It's a start...:-)

Yes, illegal immigration has always been a problem. I wish I could find the data and link again but there was one report (quoted on KFI Radio) where the problem has increased dramatically in just the last five years... that is, ever since Bush became president.

"Only if we could be assured Dick Cheney would be better on illegal immigration, and would therefore as President Cheney, step in and put an end to this border nonsense. Other than that, no real ROI on such a strategy."

Well sure there is. If Cheney (as President Cheney) does no better, you go on to the next person. We do have a line of succession in place. I believe there are 16 people who are currently on that line who are eligeable for the job? Each of them has to be replaced as the next person goes up the line, which means appointments of new people.

Eventually, that puts me in the White House, and you can bet your last buck that I'll handle the border problem. :-)
