The distant past is not in question. Recent events in US history are in question. Things have changed since 9-11. Many Americans believe part of the WOT is to secure our borders to the illegal invasion from Mexico that has been underway and growing for decades.

Face it. On the issue of illegal immigration, the President and the GOP have been asleep at the wheel.

If there is another terrorist attack on US soil that kills more Americans and it can be tied to unsecured borders, PresBush`s approval ratings are going to take a big hit. And many people who now support the President will be hard pressed to continue with that support.

Well, we are being invaded, and the president of the United States is not doing his duty to protect the states against that invasion. Some courageous Republican, to get the attention of this White House, should drop into the hopper a bill of impeachment, charging George W. Bush with a conscious refusal to uphold his oath and defend the states of the Union against "invasion."

Illegal immigration, and curtailing it, in my opinion, is a crucial part of homeland security. I support GWB, but I also must hold him to the same level of accountability I would hold any other politician to; letting him get away with issues that I would hold a Dem responsible for just isn't a consistent way of dealing with the political realm.

isn't it? a general would be court-martialed for dereliction of duty --- even all the way down to the fire-team leader ... if they were derelict in their duties .... busted - or worse if someone was killed.

Another major terrorist attack within the US homeland perpetrated by some who entered illegally -- that would make Bush2's legacy lower than Clinton's, and the bill of Impeachment would probably succeed due to public demand.

I am not so sure that failing to protect our nation's borders from an invasion doesn't rise to that level. But if that is what we are going to do, ten about 90% of Congress ought to be impeached right along with him.

No it is not an indictment of democracy since Pat correctly pointed out himself Teddy Roosevelt and Eisenhower, both elected would never have tolerated the situation on the border. What we have is bad leadership on this issue. Bush has an open borders agenda and nothing's going to change that until 2008 and a new president.

Yes, illegal immigration has always been a problem. I wish I could find the data and link again but there was one report (quoted on KFI Radio) where the problem has increased dramatically in just the last five years... that is, ever since Bush became president.

Well sure there is. If Cheney (as President Cheney) does no better, you go on to the next person. We do have a line of succession in place. I believe there are 16 people who are currently on that line who are eligeable for the job? Each of them has to be replaced as the next person goes up the line, which means appointments of new people.

Eventually, that puts me in the White House, and you can bet your last buck that I'll handle the border problem. :-)
