Thank you for writing to Comcast.
Your Comcast High-Speed Internet service features a Personal Web Pages for each of your email addresses. With Personal Web Pages, you get up to seven unique pages and a total of 25 MB of space. Comcast does not provide domain name services for vanity page names, however, it is still possible to register a domain that refers to your webspace site.
For example,
http://www.YOUR_PAGE.com would transparently transfer to your Comcast webspace site at
http://mywebpages.comcast.net/username To do this, some of our Comcast High-Speed Internet customers use a service called NameSecure or Domainit. Information is available at:
http://www.namesecure.com http://www.domainit.com Comcast is not affiliated with Domainit or NameSecure. As a result, we cannot vouch for their services, and we do not provide support for their products.
Please be advised that when using webspace the file name is case sensitive and needs to be typed exactly as it is shown. You must be very careful to remember what you type as a file name and make sure that any future revisions are done under the same name. If your file names do not match, the system will not display your pages correctly.
Another frequent cause of problems are incorrect file extensions. Make sure that your files are labeled as HTML, GIF or JPEG as needed. This facilitates accurate file transfer and supports page displays.
We would suggest backing up your website to at least two other places (floppy, computer hard drive, CD, etc). That way if something happens to your site, you still have a copy of your entire creation to publish again. This is critical as Comcast is not responsible for any lost data on your webspace.
Image Placement
Whenever you are creating stable spaces in your site (such as tables) make sure you define the sizes (attributes) as much as possible. When you tell the system the exact dimensions, it can mount your material more quickly. Otherwise, it must guess how you want the material displayed and attempt to fit it into a specific space.
Index.html pages are very important in loading web pages correctly. When someone enters your homepage address, the search engine will look for
http://mywebpages.comcast.net/username without requiring the person to enter the full name. This is also true for any directory that you create for your Personal Web Pages. As a result, the index.html file will be the one you want your visitors to see first. Otherwise visitors to your site will have to know the full URL of the document or file that they are trying to access.
Search Engine Registration
Make sure you register your site with the various search engines, such as Yahoo or Google. Most search engines do not automatically find your site just because it is accessible. Each engine has specific guidelines for registration that are available by visiting their sites. These are some of the more frequently used search engines:
http://www.yahoo.com http://www.altavista.com http://www.webcrawler.com http://www.hotbot.com http://groups.google.com http://www.dogpile.com You can find more search engines to register your site or see if there is an engine that targets specific groups of interest to you, by accessing any of the engines listed above and entering “search engines” in the search box.

Comcast High-Speed Internet customer service specialists are not authorized to support any FTP method of upload and are unable to assist with the creation, design, or development of web pages. CGI, SQL, PHP, Front Page Extensions, and all other server side scripting will not work with the webspace. Comcast is not responsible for any data that is lost that was stored on your webpage or in your file locker.
In Internet Explorer you could try going to
ftp://login:password@mywebpages.comcast.net/mywebpages">
ftp://login:password@mywebpages.comcast.net/mywebpages where login is your email address without the @comcast.net at the end and password is the password you use to access your account.
Then the FTP window will work like a file folder. Just drag the files into the folder that you want to upload.
NOTE: You will be unable to update your web page when away from the cable modem.
You can also access your file locker or personal webspace through the Member Services section of the homepage.
To access the webspace and file locker management tool:
1. Go to the www.comcast.net page
2. Log in to your personal homepage
3. Click the Member Services link
4. Click the Manage My Webpage/My File Locker link
NOTE: You will then see My Web Page/My File Locker Usage information.
5. You can then click on the Launch My Web Page tool or the Launch My File Locker Tool to access your web page upload area or file locker respectively.
It is important to note that your file locker and web page share the 25 MB of space.
If you run into a problem with the File Locker or Web Space management utility under the Member Services section of the homepage, you may want to remove the Unlimi-Tech Software certificate to correct the problem:
(Windows)
1. In Internet Explorer go to Tools
2. Select Internet Options
3. Select Content
4. Under Certificates choose Publishers
5. Unlimi-Tech Software Inc should be listed. Select it.
6. Clear your cache and cookies by Clicking on the General tab and clicking on Settings. Then click on View Files. After that go to Edit, Select All, File, Delete, and click Yes to clear cookies.
7. Close Internet Explorer
8. Reboot the computer
(Macintosh)
1. Go to Explorer
2. Click Preferences
3. At the left, click Security
4. In the box under Certificate Authorities, select the Unlimi-Tech Software Inc certificate.
5. Click Delete
You can also use the Command/DOS window to FTP files to your website.
The FTP (File Transfer Protocol) command works directly in MS-DOS. The DOS program will give you a prompt asking you for commands. This prompt will be at the left side of the screen and will usually have a colon (:) or a colon with an arrow (: >), and will be followed by a blinking cursor.
You will type the required commands one line at a time at the cursor location and the computer will execute them on the following line. The result is a running list of commands and responses.
Remember the following:
* You will need to press the ENTER key after you type the commands for the computer to respond.
* All entries are case sensitive--upper and lower case are recognized.
* You must type items with or without spaces as required
To use the Command/DOS based FTP:
1. Click Start at the bottom left of your screen
2. Select Run
3. Type: command
NOTE: Under NT 5.0 (2000) and 5.1 (XP) you may need to type cmd to get the window to show up.
4. Click OK or press Enter
5. A black window will appear where you will type the commands
6. The prompt will display with a blinking cursor and should look like: C:/ WINDOWS> ; C:/ ; etc.
7. Type: FTP mywebpages.comcast.net
8. Press Enter
9. The prompt reads: >User (myfilelocker.comcast.net:(none)):
10. Enter your Comcast login (Your email address without the @comcast.net at the end).
11. Press Enter
12. Your next prompt will be Password:
13. You will want to enter your password (The same password you use for email).
14. Press Enter
15. If your login is successful, you will see something like 230-You are user #22 of 1500 simultaneous users allowed.
16. Your next prompt will be ftp>
17. At the prompt type: cd mywebpages
18. You will then be in your web page directory that will allow you to put (upload), get (download), ls (show what files are there) and delete (remove) files on your webspace.
Please be advised that we are unable to support an FTP client of any type.
To logout of DOS and the WebSpace computer:
1. Type: Bye
2. Press Enter
3. The following prompt will display: C:/WINDOWS>
4. Type Exit and press Enter and the DOS/Command window will go away.
After you have updated your web page, you can view it by going to
http://mywebpages.comcast.net/login where login is your Comcast email address without the @comcast.net after it.
If you continue to have a problem viewing your web page, please make sure that you’ve quit your FTP client and that you have reset Internet Explorer to the default settings.
To reset all Internet Explorer settings:
1. Go to Tools
2. Select Internet Options
3. On the General tab click Delete Files
4. Check Delete Offline Content
5. Click OK
6. Click on the Settings button
7. Make sure that the cache is set to 25 Meg
8. Make sure that Every Visit to page is selected
9. Click OK
10. Click on the Security tab
11. Click the Default Level button
NOTE: In Internet Explorer 6 you’ll also want to click on the Privacy tab and Click the Default button
12. Click on the Programs tab
13. Click the Reset Web Settings button
14. Uncheck Also Reset My Homepage
15. Click Yes
16. Click OK
17. Click on the Advanced tab
18. Click Restore Defaults
19. Click OK
