Don't do it, Gran,
Barley can't make you what you put into it. If it's got good plumpness, then it can be sold for brewing barley, but mostly it goes into animal feed cake, mixed with molasses to give it some body. Not a lot makes the cut for brewers. Mostly the brewers have contracted out with a few farmers and they are very picky with what they accept.
Those barley beards break off when you are combining, and that gives rise to a dastardly barley dust that is itchier than sin. It sticks to you when you sweat and really makes things miserable. A closed cab is a must, but you still have to get out to unplug the combine every now and then.
Raising registered barley for seed is still profitable, but even those contracts go mostly to farmers who have had certified fields for a long time.
You could use Barley in rotation to control weeds for another crop, get the broadleaf weeds like pigweed down so that Sugar Beets have a better chance, but the genetically modified beets nowdays can stand herbicides which kill most weeds, if you can affort to buy the seed,
No, a barley field is mostly good for taking pretty pictures, and you got a dandy there, Gran.

In case I didn't say so, thanks a bunch for posting those gorgeous trumpets. Hope you get some pretty humming birds to come and visit.

Thanks for the welcome back....hopefully within the coming week I will be able to return to full posting time...
Spring has really come to Western Washington...the daffodils are in full bloom, as well as the pansies, and primroses...the cherry trees are also in full 'pink' bloom...the azaleas are ready to burst...soon the dogwoods, and the rhodies will also follow...
The Good Lord, certainly outdoes Himself in springtime...so much variation in color and shape and size in all the garden offerings...and I am sure He did it all, just for our good pleasure and appreciation...
The weather here is very rainy and glum looking outside...tho the glumness is brightened by all the flowers in bloom, lighting up the dark, grey day....
Dizzy, tho is still in full winter mode....all he wants to do is eat and sleep...I guess he is taking the opportunity to get all his sleep in, before the spring is in full swing, and he must resume his birdwatching duties, from the window....but for now, he is just content, to sleep curled up in bed, the big baby...
See ya later...

You sure do have it right....Health, Time and Money....the three main ingredients to make a great retirement...thats why we are going as soon as possible....who knows for how long, we will be well, or even still alive...I remember folks from my dads generation, who kept putting off retirement, and died while they were still working....they never got to enjoy that time....
Tho, there are people who thrive on working, and would probably shrivel up if they had to retire....
I guess each one, must decide what they want, and then live with the consequences...
As for me and the hubby, we figured we have worked enough....soon comes the time for us to play...
To: grannie9
grannie, your pictures are looking so good. I'm not having much luck selling the landscapes - gonna branch out into glamour/boudoir photography.

Thanks for the good report from the NW - spring will get here when it's time for it to get here.
The fat robins are gobblin' berries and bugs and looking like they will pop, if they do not stop. Temps are approaching 80 on some days, and I'm hoping that CenTex has a Spring and doesn't go directly into Summer as is so often the case.
A great evening to our NW friends.

A WASP, perhaps?
What going on with the t-shirts, for the umpteenth time?
People by t-shirts with G*d knows what crap on them. Why wouldn't they buy classy shirts with your CenTex pics on them?
