I cook like a madwoman during the week...make big feasty dinner, and pack Bigdom a hefty, tasty lunch...

But on the weekends, I become the queen....usually on Saturdays, Dom goes to a place called 'Luckys', a local place that has wonderful broasted chicken and jo jo potatoes...I would have to say, that 3 out of 4 Saturdays, BigDom goes over to Luckys, has a few draft beer, and has two orders of broasted chicken and jos to go...then he brings it home, and we can feast....

Sundays, sometimes we order pizza, sometimes we go out to eat...

So, for all the heavy cooking I do during the week, I have to say, that the weekends are easy....

When I was growing up, Sunday afternoon dinner at home with mom and dad and my brother, was always a big, big deal...now Mom always went to church, and I played organ in the church, and my brother went to church, as often as mom could get him in there....and Mom also taught Sunday School...

So, in order to have a fine Sunday afternoon dinner, mom would get everything ready, and then leave a long list of instructions for dad as to when to put the meal in, what temps, when to start sutff on the stove...so when we got home, Dad would be there, carrying out his assigned tasks...mom would come in and finish things off, and we would have our grand dinner...

But once me and my brother left home to be on our own, one of the first things mom demanded of dad, was that he take her out for Sunday dinner, every single Sunday...she was not going to prepare and cook another Sunday afternoon dinner, if she could help it...

And so, that is how it was from then on...mom would come home from church, and off the two of them would go....always the Sundaty dinner out was done in conjunction with flea market shopping, or visiting the Chicago museums, or zoos, or going to the show, or whatever...for them, it was now just the two of them, and Sunday was kind of like date day, with dinner out, and some other sort of activity...

On the note about Dad not attending church with the rest of us...Dad was not much of a church goer...he went occasionally for events, especially if it was something involving my brother or I(remember, like the time he showed up drunk, to my piano solo, and candle girl lighting debut)...but by and large, dad did not attend church...

However, he knew more about the Bible, or so it seemed, than the minister did....that is because Dad was a great reader, and in his leisure time, he would always be found with his bundle of books under his arm, or on his desk...he read several books at one time...usually a serious book, like maybe something on the civil war, something light, like Mad magazine, something about fishing or wood carving, and always the Bible...dad read the Bible as often as he could, as frankly, he lived the Bible, better than most...

Also on the matter of dad cooking...dad could be a 'fair' cook, when he did cook....his favorites were spam and mayo on soft gushy bread, canned corned beef, and any type of beans....but when we were small kids, my mom was sick a lot, and so dad did a lot of the cooking for himself and me and my brother....he said one time he was cooking, and he turned around real quick, and there sat my brother and me, at the kitchen table, holding and noses, and making icky faces about his cooking..naturally, he just had to laugh, tho gave us a gentle smack on the head for making fun of his food....

Yes, I see thats for sale on ebay...but heck, they want almost 100 dollars for it...I could use that 100 dollars better, towards a doll I actually like...

But they may get a buyer, who knows?

That's why the bureau of Time Travel (AKA 'The Agency') has rules against monetary profit.

Andy should retire after this one:

If you missed Andy Rooney on Sunday night, read on. Most that heard him
couldn't believe their ears. They kept expecting CBS to cut him off.

A weekly commentary by CBS News correspondent Andy Rooney.
______________________________________________________

You can't beat the French when it comes to food, fashion, wine or perfume,
but they lost their license to have an opinion on world affairs years ago.
They may even be selling stuff to Iraq and don't want to hurt business.

The French are simply not reliable partners in a world where the good people
in it ought to be working together. Americans may come off as international
jerks sometimes but we're usually trying to do the right thing.

The French lost WW II to the Germans in about 20 minutes. Along with the
British, we got into the war and had about 150,000 guys killed getting their
country back for them. We fought all across France, and the Germans
surrendered in a French schoolhouse. You'd think that school building in
Reims would be a great tourist attraction but it isn't. The French seem
embarrassed by it. They don't want to call attention to the fact that we
freed them from German occupation.

I heard Steven Spielberg say the French wouldn't even let him film the D-Day
scenes in "Saving Private Ryan" on the Normandy beaches. They want people to
forget the price we paid getting their country back for them.

Americans have a right to protest going to war with Iraq. The French do not.
They owe us the independence they flaunt in our face at the U.N.

I went into Paris with American troops the day we liberated it, Aug. 25,
1944. It was one of the great days in the history of the world. French women
showered American soldiers with kisses, at the very least. The next day, the
pompous Charles de Gaulle marched down the mile long Champs Elysee to the
Place de la Concorde as if he had liberated France himself. I was there,
squeezed in among a hundred tanks we'd given the Free French Army that we
brought in with us. Suddenly there were sniper shots from the top of a
building. Thousands of Frenchmen who had come to see de Gaulle scrambled to
get under something. I got under an Army truck myself. The tank gunners
opened fire on the building where the shots had come from, firing mindlessly
at nothing. It was a wild scene that lasted, maybe, 10 minutes. When we go
to Paris every couple of years now, I rent a car. I drive around the Place
de la Concorde and when some French driver blows his horn for me to get out
of his way, I just smile and say to myself, "Go ahead, Pierre. Be my guest.
I know something about this very place you'll never know."

The French have not earned their right to have an opinion about President
Bush's plans to attack Iraq.

On the other hand, I have.
