How terrible for the families of the astronauts to watch this happen.

The President is speaking at 11:30. This is heartbreaking.

That's what I heard at first, but who knows. Tony Snow said we'll hear from NASA, then from GWB.

Bubba is probably sitting around in a whorehouse somewhere, wishing that this happened on his watch. I'm sure the Rats will politicize this disaster, as they do everything else.

My thoughts and prayers are with the families.

Can't read that crap, Gran. After the 9/11 and snipers, my tolerance for BS is pretty low during times such as these.

Hubby is reading the DU posts now and his hair is on fire...

Oh yes.. I can just imagine.. I read a few myself from some links posted on the shuttle thread.. Sickening.. Our own people can be our worst enemies.. Isn't it strange?

It illustrates the seething hatred for this country espoused by the Left. They lack common decency, they are devoid of normal human emotion. They sicken me.

Yes.. and they are fellow Americans and supposedly human beings. Proof positive that they want no good for this country..

I hope they keep speaking out..the more that hear them the better for the rest of us.. Scum!!!

I fully expect that Bubba will frantically search for television cameras so he can bite his lip and shed faux tears over this tragedy by sundown. Her Heinous will call for an end to the space program in order to fund entitlement programs.

I think we forget how truly dangerous space travel is, what with so many successes that it makes it look all so easy.Whover goes up into space is brave beyond words.

It is as quiet around here as it was the morning of 9/11.There is activity, but it is quiet, eerily so...

Yes, astronauts are truly brave. With so many movies and successful flights, we forget the true danger of space travel. This is a sad day.

It is a gorgeous day here, but nothing is going on.. The mail has been delivered, but not one boat has gone by the house.. That is really strange, believe me..and it's Sat.. Not one car that I've noticed has gone by the house..other than the mail.. Very, very quiet..

I'm with you on not being able to visit the du site - and tell dh to stop setting his head on fire.

They're with God now.

Thanks for pointing this out. I believe that the only traffic I've seen has been the low-speed chase vehicle today.

Just when I think "What next can happen?" It happens.

Stay well guys.

Yeah, I know. I remember back when Columbia first launched.
It was the oldest and heaviest of the shuttles.
It would have been 24 years old or so this year.
Originally, the design spec called for it to be made of titanium.
Jimmy Carter cut the budget for it, so that it had to be made of aluminum.
And then CLinton AND NASA cut the budget for a shuttle replacement.
They stated that a replacement wasn't needed until about 2010 or later...
Idiots.
