They eat the weeds that would otherwise plug up the props of boats. They often get sets of diagonal scars across their backs from propellers going over them.
Relative of the elephant (distant).
Cheers.

Like me, you're without kiddos - so, a miss here, a miss there - who's counting?

Luckily I think I only grazed it with the pontoon of the boat. I would have felt terrible if I really injured it. We waited and waited for it to come up again, but it never did and we had to move on.
They are all over the canal out here now.. but I never can catch one with the camera.. Most times you only see their snot coming up for air.. The water must be warm in the canals now. They love the warm water and hang around the power plant up north on the Orange River. We've been there twice and never did see one there.. They are all out here.. lol I saw two I think this morning down by the condos. It's a ways, but I saw them with my naked eye.. I knew it wasn't Dolphins.. I haven't seen a Dolphin in the canal yet. They come in tho, and so does a Shark and Alligator at times..

I've never seen one either, I don't know what natural predators they have. I've heard the death rate from accidents is mostly what keeps the population in check.
As a kid in Mississippi I found a huge alligator skeleton in the swamp by Boloxi, got my fascination up early for those reptiles. I couldn't even move the skull.

Cheers.

As I said, I need to get up to mantatee speed - which seems slow enough to be believable. They look like the basset hounds of the seas.
Familie's gathering...we are practicing for the wake...I'm showing them how it should be done - pray for me.
Thanks for being here.

Good morning Sundog.. Ooops, it's afternoon now.
Did you steal that from the same album that I did? lol. I have that album bookmarked. ;) Thank you very much.. I love it..
We have another tief amongst us I believe...
To: grannie9
Probably. All I did was go to www.weirdlinks.com (who are in the process of switching servers this weekend) and look for some weird stuff. tubcat.com had one and the other was just a pic entitled "Sea Monster Horror!".
Cheers.
(btw, Bill Atkinson's rose is featured on his home page. He has moved from natureimages.com to BillAtkinson.com)

Thanks Gran: family viewing today, public viewing tomorrow, services Tuesday. The Jews have it right - get'em in the ground the next day and save the embalming costs.
