I am glad you enjoyed moms 'Miss Marble' story...
Poor mom, she was deluded, but she often made me laugh...
The funniest thing she ever did, and it is making me laugh out loud right now, is the way she dressed herself...
For whatever reason, people with Alzheimers or other forms of dementia, are often obsessed with their clothing...I saw this in mom, and in all the Alzheimers patients I have taken care of in the nursing homes...
This obsession with clothing can and does take many forms...some are constantly stripping their clothes off, prefering to remain nude except for jewelry, glasses and shoes and socks...some hoarde clothing, and will actually go into other patients closets and grab their clothes and hide them with their own clothing....some prefer to wear not just one set of clothing at a time, but prefer to wear two and three shirts or blouses and two or three pairs of pants, all piled one on top of the other...and some prefer to change their clothing every few hours....
Mom fell into that last category...she would get up in the morning, I would give her a shower, and then I let her pick out her clothing, and let her dress herself as well as she could...she usually managed to do a fairly good job....
But after a few hours, she wanted to be wearing something different, and she would disappear into her closet, and change her clothes...the thing that made me laugh, was her insistence, that when she wore a blouse that had shoulder pads in them, she wore her blouse inside out, so that the shoulder pads were on the outside...and depending on how big the shoulder pads were, she would look like she was an angel with those big shoulder pads on the outside of her blouse, looking like big wings...she was insistent, that those shoulder pads belonged on the outside of the blouse, and since most of the time we were not going out in public, I just let her wear the clothes the way she wanted....
But I can still see her, sitting on the edge of her bed, with these big shoulder pads, fluttering around, ,as if they were big wings, and her looking so happy about the whole thing...

what will you do if loddy finds wonderful houses for all of us in Bisbee
are you attracted to the beautiful southwestern desert
Bisbee is near where Cochise holed up in mountains
To: palo verde
Yes, you must get Hush Puppy Shoes....for the official emblem and mascot, is a basset hound...Basset Hound sponsored shoes are needed for walking basset hounds...Bill should be able to follow that logic...

Well, BigDom gave me my wad of dough, for my weekend alone, and of course, I blew it on ebay...
But not to worry...BigDom tells me his next check will be a biggie....BigDom works for the post office, and his craft is overseen by the Mailhandlers Union...it took them about two years and some odd months to finally iron out their last contract...during that time, the workers received no raises... the dispute was settled a few months ago, and its all retroactive....meaning they have to pay up all the difference between what they were earning, and what they should have been earning, when the last contract was up...so thats about 2 1/2 yrs worth of raises that are due to all the Mail Handlers...
And the next check should contain that one big lump sum of retroactive pay....Hooray...just in time for the Holidays, and of course more Holiday dolly shopping...

Why, thank you Miss Palo...it makes me smile and laugh to remember Mom...her illness was so devastating to her mind, yet the way she acted in her illness, was at times just very funny and very touching...
To: andysandmikesmom

I had a great uncle like that, he had a form of Alzheimers called Pic's Disease, which is very rare, but its terminal, and he would act very odd with his clothes, wearing a nylon windbreaker next to his skin with a shirt over it, then a tweed jacket...and sleep in his brogues with his tie knotted.
He also used to cut his own hair.Ugh!! And he would walk.....for miles and miles....one night he took the wrong turn and walked for 6 hrs up the major highway....almost 20 miles away and was found by cops almost walking in traffic one morning.A horror show.
To: habs4ever
I dont know anything about Pics Disease, but it sounds like many of the same things that happen with Alzheimers patients was happening with you uncle...
Constant walking is also very common in those with Alzheimers...in fact, in most nursing homes, which have locked down Alzheimers Units, the Alzheimers patients are allowed to be up and about 24hrs a day...unlike the other residents, ,who are usually put into bed by around 8pm or so....the other residents stay in bed, but Alzheimers patients rarely do, unless they are already bed bound because of contractures, or unabilty to walk at all...
But the Alzheimers patients just love to walk up and down the halls, and are constantly in motion...and often we would at least try puttin them to bed, on the off chance that they would sleep for a little while...sometimes they did, sometimes they did not...
Often they would get up, walk for a while, other Alzheimer patients would be walking up and down...when they got tired, they would just grab the closest bed, which was almost never their own bed...and they would promptly fall asleep in someone elses bed...
On graveyard shift, we would seldom move them back to their own bed...once they were asleep, we would want them to continue sleeping for as long as possible, so we just left them...I am sure some of their families would be angry to know that their family member would be sleeping half the night away in a bed not their own...but we had to decide what was best for the patient...sometimes the best thing to do, was to let them get some sleep in whatever bed they happened to land end...
That Alzheimer and related dementias are really difficult syndromes to manage, and its no wonder, that often families have a hard time coping with this sort of behavior....it can be very draining...
To: habs4ever
Is your Uncle still alive? I will have to study up about that Pics Disease....as I had never heard about it before...
Families who care for their own, with Alzheimers and other related dementias, often do so at great cost to their emotions, and their pocketbook...
It can be so very difficult and frustrating, to see a love one go this route...
Bless your Uncle, and his family who care for him...it was hard for him and hard for them, I am sure, and bless them all for that struggle...

He died two years ago.He came down with it in 1993.All Pics patients do die.it is a degenerative brain disease that leads to the body shutting down, and his brain now is being used at the London General Hospital, which specializes in brain disease research. Its very rare, so his condition became noteworthy for the medical community. He was also 80.
To: andysandmikesmom; habs4ever
thanks for link andysmom
also for email with it
you're a sweetie
I have 2 pairs of Hush Puppy sandals for walkin' Lulu now
I love lookin' at sweet basset hound on box
both pairs are attractive, and I love them
two different styles
but I'd like something even cuter and sexier
to entice me to walk her
also habs forgot to remind me to get glamorous sunglasses for walkin' Lulu
it is hot now with humidity, anything which sparkles my eye when I think of walkin' Lulu is good for me
cause she loves her walkie so much
To: habs4ever
Bless his heart, it was so very good of his family to donate his brain for study, which hopefully adds to the pooled knowledge that the medical community has on brain diseases...
Still, my calculations come out that he had to live with his condition for about 7 yrs, which is just too long for anyone to have to live with such a devastating thing....
Having seen what brain diseases do, both from my experience in my own family, and my experiences with patients in the nursing homes, all I can do, I hope that someday, these types of diseases will be eradicated or at least become more treatable...they are devastating, not only to the person involved, but to the whole family....
To: palo verde
The pics on that website are wonderful....
If Miss Palo, gets her new sexy sandals, and some sexy sunglasses, and wears her new sexy dresses, while on her walkie with Lulu, she better be on guard...
Someone may be entranced by the lovely sight of Palo and her princess Lulu, and may try to win you gals away from Bill...Bill and Happy better be on guard...
To: andysandmikesmom
rofl Lulu is in love with Happy
and I am in love with Bill
but I will admit Lulu kisses everyone she meets on her walkie
