Palo, I have been hearing about the Arizona fires, on the news...I did not realize that you and your family are close enough to see the smoke...sure hope that you and yours are safe, and that you wont have to leave home, because the fires are spreading...sure hope they get them under control, before they start heading for you...

Do Happy and Lulu have a little wading pool? I know with the heat, you and Bill can go to the swimming pool, but I am sure they dont allow pets...you should buy Lulu and Happy a wading pool...or use a hose to sprinkle them and let them cool off

That was sure funny about Bill buying a new bathing suit, only because his old one had a whole in it...

Before we bought out current house, we lived in a little house way out in the country, next to a creek...altho it never gets real hot here, still Helga, after she was done running around and playing, would get hot...and she would bound and run and jump right into the creek, which was actually quite shallow...she would just lay in that creek, and let the water run over her big body...she looked like a big beached whale, laying in that creek..but she was smart, she knew how to cool off...

lol we don't have lawns on desert
it never rains
my yards are just sandy earth
yup, that cactus which got you in Oklahoma is here in my front yard and back yard
the cactus wrens make their nests in them, cause thorns are so long and sharp it is perfectly safe in there

Bill made small pool in earth (he leaves hose on all time)
so birds can drink from it (and bathe in it) and dogs can go in and cool themselves
it is not big (bout size of doggie bathtub)
cause of water it is like small oasis in yard now
the arizona ash next to it drinks from it, and all sorts of small trees have grown up around it
so it is cool and shady spot too, both Lulu and Happy lie there
altho they have cool spots in house too

fire is all over mountain now
the smoke covers it from view now, and I can smell the fire (sometimes)
we do not live close to it, it is right in my line of view tho
(we live in central tucson, mountain is 20 minute car ride away)

I just finished ''39 Steps'' what a terrific book
it is so much fun that it is not like the movie
so it all surprised me
I like it better than the movie
I told gal in pool about it, and she wants to take it out of libe too
I told her bout the two other authors you described, and she got very interested
I remembered Eric Ambler's name but she was even more interested in the other one
I'll memorize his name next time I go to pool

He posts from his rocking chair, in his slippers, with a blanket wrapped around his shoulders, as its freezing ass off country ;-)

The other author is Philip Kerr.The three books that make up the Berlin Noir Trilogy are :March Violets, Pale Criminal, German Requiem.Hopefull y you can find a copy of the collection there.Have you tried going online to check the libraries' catalogues and searching? I bet they have a website, even ours does :-)

I forgot
no guns allowed in Mexico
they are strict bout it
they even put one of our Marines in jail when he crossed border in San Diego still carrying his gun
and when my neighbor Karen and I went to Nogalles we were stopped by Mexican police at border
she had to take everything out of back of her pick-up truck to show we were not bringing guns to Mexico
