(VIDEO) Los Angeles Warehouse Fire Rages Into SIXTH Day as Newsom Declares State of Emergency and Shelter-in-Place Orders

A massive warehouse fire that erupted in Boyle Heights, California, on Wednesday is still burning six days later, prompting a state of emergency declaration from California Governor Gavin Newsom.

The city has also issued shelter-in-place orders and a particle pollution advisory.

The warehouse is being used as a cold-food storage facility by a company called Lineage, and the fire is believed to have originated from solar panels on the building's roof. “We are the tenant-operator of the warehouse building and lease the roof to a third-party solar company, which is responsible for operating and maintaining the array," Lineage said in a statement.

"We believe the fire originated on the roof on Wednesday while the company’s subcontractors were servicing the solar array.”

80 million pounds of food are reportedly stored in the warehouse.

Aerial footage shows the massive smoke pouring out of the warehouse as firefighters continue to fight the blaze.

More from ABC 7:

The failure to tame the blaze is reminiscent of the Los Angeles wildfires in January 2025, which caused $140 billion in damages and killed at least 31 people due to the incompetence of LA's Democratic leaders.

NBC Los Angeles reported on Sunday,

Some insurance companies here in Florida will not cover your roof if you have solar panels on it..........

I wonder how the insurance companies rate roof solar both residential & commercial

I heard/read that firefighters who would normally break open a roof to spray water on a fire below will not do so when solar panels are in place; they just let it burn, presumably to the point where the flames creates the hole for them, and then they'll finally inject the water and begin trying to put it out.

I told this to the last solar panel salesman who happened by my house, letting him know that's why I wasn't interested in solar panels. The salesman had no rebuttal.

Been burning for 6 days? Is there a water pressure issue or something?

I know you're joking because of Mayor Bass's recent hydrant fiasco, but fires in large cold storage facilities are notoriously hard to fight as they tend to be very compartmentalized and heavily insulated.

Think of all the fools who have leased their roofs to solar outfits. These things are contracts and a blight on the title to the property.

There is always the chance to stack waxed boxes up close to a heat source like an electric bulb or a hot compressor pump.

My first (and obvious) question for any fire is:
How many migrant invaders from the ME or Africa were in the roof-repair crew?...

I was unintentionally being funny. :) I genuinely had no idea why they were unable to put out a fire in the middle of a city for 6 days.

You answer makes sense though. You battle it section by section, and each section is slow going because of the insulation keeping the heat above the flash point.

Yes. I know. A brother of mine in So Cal did one of those 25 year solar lease deals. He died in February. Now his son is trying to get a real estate lawyer to tell him what that will mean when he sells the house - is he forced to sell the house with the responsibility for paying the lease transferred to the buyer, and what if the only buyers he can find will only buy it without the burden of the solar lease??? I posed these questions to my brother when he made the solar deal. His answer then was he did not care, if he died it would not be his problem.

A.I. tells us:

You typically have three options: transfer the lease to the buyer, buy out the lease, or pay to have the system removed.

The first option is fine if a buyer will assume the lease. If the first option is not possible the seller has to buy out the lease, removing monthly lease costs for the system, or pay to have have the system removed. Somehow I don’t think the last option is the end of it; if the removal of the system is not returning it to the outfit it came from. wouldn’t you also have to pay off the lease as well???
