Plans for ‘floating city’ that would carry 80,000 people dwarfing the finest cruise ships in the world

Seas the day.

Plans are being put forward to create the world’s first-ever “floating city,” which would be powered by nuclear energy and have a capacity of 80,000 – dwarfing the finest cruise ships in the world.

Visions of the so-called Freedom Ship have existed since the 1990s, but they have been brought back to life once again – this time under Freedom Cruise Line CEO Roger Gooch, who told the Telegraph, “We feel very confident that we can put this together, but capitalization is key.”

Should it come to reality, the megaship would dwarf anything produced by the likes of Royal Caribbean or Carnival Cruise Line.

A proposed capacity of 80,000 people would dwarf Royal Caribbean’s $2 billion Icon of the Seas, which stands at a maximum of 7,600 guests and 2,350 crew members.

In the SF novel A Torrent of Faces, about a quarter of the story is taken up with a sub-story about an enormous floating resort called the Barrier Hilton. It's a gigantic semi-submerged sphere surrounded by a huge ring about two thirds of the way up from the bottom; the ring functions as a beach, complete with sand dunes. The size of the sphere is enormous; it is designed to accommodate a million guests.

In the novel, a computer problem causes the sphere to become unmoored from its supporting structure; a huge rescue operation is described. The whole story was quite detailed and imaginative, at least to my 13-year-old self.

Plague
Exciting and new
Come aboard
We’re expecting you

The runs,
From norovirus
Let it flow, it floats back to you

The plague boat
Soon will be giving you the runs
The plague boat
Promises something for everyone

Set a course for the bathroom
Your mind on some clean new pants

Many years ago, National Lampoon published a great article on the proposed ocean liner U.S.S. Tyrannic. It was about 5000 feet long and other dimensions were in scale. 1972, I believe.

A nice test run for a habitat for Venus outpost.

The novel’s grand finale is a meteor strike on Earth; the meteor is called Flavia. Several attempts are made to try to ablate the meteor with a powerful laser on the moon, but this achieves only partial success.

Yes, and also the grifter coalition: Kerry, Gore, Pelosi, The Clintons, The Obamas, The Bidens, Al Sharpton, Gavin Newsome.

The atmosphere of Venus is 96% carbon dioxide and the pressures at ground level would crush you into a flat pancake, not to mention the temperature of molten solder.................
