A prediction market company best known for allowing users to bet on world events is stepping into New York City’s food scene — if only briefly — with the launch of what it’s calling the city’s first-ever free grocery store.
Polymarket will be open for New Yorkers in Lower Manhattan starting at 12PM from Feb. 12 through Feb. 16, according to the NYC for Free website. It’s being described as the city’s first free grocery store, "fully stocked" and requiring no purchase.
Polymarket posted on X, Tuesday, that the idea took "months of planning." In addition to paying for the lease, the company said it had donated $1 million to Food Bank For New York City to support "an organization that changes how our city responds to hunger."

Yep.
Hoo-boy. Are they gonna livestream the Grand Opening?
“free grocery store”
There’s that word again......one of the greatest deceptions ever perpated on the American people is anything is “free”.
They could pay per view it....I suspect people would pay good money to watch that cluster fk unfold.
Set a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.
This will end similar to the medical care in Haiti.
Doctors and nurses rushed in to provide free healthcare. As a result the Dr’s who had been there prior to the disaster made no money and had to leave to survive.
Subsequently, all the Dr’s and nurses that gave free healthcare went home, leaving Haitians with no healthcare.
The same will happen with current grocery stores in NYC.
LIEberal INSANITY!
FOR ALL TO SEE!
This will not end well!
JUST LIKE WORK BOOTS WITH FLOYD & WATTS RIOTS
YUP
NO DELAYS IN GETTING “CHECKED OUT”
What is the difference between a free grocery store and a food
bank?
There are food pantries all over the place. Tell me the difference? Meat and vegetables?? Or all canned like the pantries?
I’m betting on a shooting
Don’t forget murders when rival gangs show up.
What makes grocery stores profitable is turnover. Lots of small transactions with tiny profit margins and it takes only a little bit of theft to seriously hurt them financially.
And as an aside we are now 1 week into black his story munth without having to endure trivialities, fake news not withstanding but I would not know.
Good thing they aren’t opening a free weave store. It would go nuclear.
“Looted in one day”
Probably yes, but also the shelves will have products nobody buys anywhere else. Think of when you were a kid and your school had a food drive for the less fortunate and your mother sent you with some can or box of something that had been in the back of the pantry for years.
I remember reading about a group that attempted to distribute free artisan bread to needy families in West Virginia. Folks showed up and only wanted white bread. They ended up tossing the good bread.
This is going to be fun to watch. I’d make popcorn, but I donated it to the needy.
