Could someone explain to me, like I am 8, why we need data centers, centralized processing, and AI ? Why? Who decided?
This will result in reduced expenses and higher profits.
For who?
Force multiplier for researchers. If it crunches data, the researchers won’t have to crunch it themselves. This frees them up to do other things.
Is it usually better to have one researcher on a project or two or three?
So what happens to the two researchers that get laid off?
AI and data centers are quite possibly a force multiplier on human intelligence because it will crunch thousands of years of information in just a few minutes, freeing up mental resources that can be used for other things.
......
Possible maybes. ?
Like global warming?
It can greatly increase productivity at work. We’ve already identified new product suppliers for our company.
It decreases the amount of time spent searching the web from hours down to minutes.
We live in a mostly free market capitalist society => The market (everyone) decided. There are enough validated use cases showing people pay for services that require AI to convince CEOs and venture capitalists to invest heavily.
So governments can predict when Muslim terrorists will likely shoot people so governments can prevent the shootings.
What deal and what is an EBE?
Like most other things we don’t need it but some people want it and use it. That’s the way freedom works.
I like this old ad explaining the transition to the dial telephone systen:

There is no limit of work in the universe. For them, they will probably always have a job somewhere.
AI would hurt those whose jobs involve processing. IF not A then B and if not B then C type jobs. That’s where AI could really hurt in the employment sector.
One can see the need for cars over horses. That is concrete.
This abstract stuff vapor ware. Like global warming
Ask Chat GPT.
Pharma and medical treatments, for one.
I need it for my work.
Next question?
We’re building prisons... is that what you’ve saying?
Well that is the first concrete answer.
Paralegals, accountants, translators, and other such careers are probably doomed (doomed).
Because Daddy said so.
There is no limit of work in the universe
But not all knowledge is on the Web or Internet.
