Intersex professor fears she will be forced to lie and teach only two genders exist

An associate professor at The University of New Mexico says that she is concerned she will be forced to lie and teach that there are only two genders, male and female.

Georgiann Davis, an associate professor at The University of New Mexico, wrote in an op-ed Thursday in the Los Angeles Times that she is concerned about being forced to lie when speaking about sexuality. The piece was headlined, “I’m an intersex professor. Am I supposed to lie by teaching ‘only male and female’?”

She noted a viral video on Reddit of a Texas A&M student questioning Professor Melissa McCoul over rhetoric on “gender and sexuality” and “gender ideology.”

McCoul shared a graphic of a purple “gender unicorn” that’s used to teach on differences on gender identity and sexuality, according to The Texas Tribune.

“Um, I just have a question because I’m not entirely sure this is legal to be teaching,” the female asked in the video referred to by Davis. “Because according to our president, there’s only two genders…. And this also very much goes against not only myself, but a lot of people’s religious beliefs.”

McCoul was eventually fired over what the university claimed was teaching content inconsistent with her own course’s description.

A statement from former Texas A&M President Mark A. Welsh III, who recently stepped down from his role, addressed the controversy in a post last month on Texas A&M’s X account.

“I learned this afternoon that key leaders in the College of Arts and Sciences approved plans to continue teaching course content that was not consistent with the course’s published description,” Welsh said. “As a result, I directed the provost to remove the dean and department head from their administrative positions, effective immediately.”

Cultural institutions exist to teach the general rule — and not all the deviations and exceptions to every rule — that makes such generalized knowledge useless. For those rarities, they can be processed as exceptions — and not that it is valuable to learn every exception that might never be encountered again. That’s how culture and science is useful — and not that we learn every possibility as equally valuable. We want to learn the general rule first — and not all the deviations that make such knowledge useless. Even the exceptions will benefit first from knowing what is the general rule and principle — before fragmenting reality into the futility of any learning.

That latter makes all learning equally useless. It is like studying lottery winners to develop successful rules for most hard-working people — and what we want is to increase the possibilities of successful and happy lives — and not just the diversity and randomness of every possibility equally — as though that is an intelligent thing to do. The whole reason for culture and society is to improve one’s chances for successful and prosperous adaptations and lives — and not to rail against God and reality that one isn’t at the top — undeservingly so. That’s not what life is for anybody. That is the great misunderstanding perpetuated by institutions of learning with no understanding of their purpose and reason for being — other than to receive the “unlimited free money” they feel they are entitled to — for being “disabled.”

“Intersex professor fears she will be forced to lie and teach only two genders exist”

Her motto must be “Of all the things I’ve lost I miss my mind the most”.

I read that almost 2% of the population are born with an “intersex” condition. They are the ones for whom so-called “gender-affirming care” might be necessary. But I would disagree with this professor that they are a third sex. Rather, something happened in utero, and they were born with a condition that may require treatment. But these cases do show that XY does not necessarily make someone male.

Intersex is not a sex - it’s a disorder of sex.

Like somebody being born with 6 fingers.

Why are outsized, silly glasses almost mandatory for these people?

Oops. Correcting my post:

I checked again... That “almost 2%” seems to be a myth. It’s a much lower percentage, which bolsters the argument further that it’s not really a third sex but a rare condition that might need treatment.

As you well know, they “reappropriated” the term for their own purposes. But yeah, it only exists in their minds.

THere are not two genders, but only two sexes.

Genders are for words and not people.

Professor Davis: Please define the word "gender." Explain what "male" and "female" mean. Explain what makes a particular person male or female. Explain what makes a person some other gender than male or female and define what the criteria are.

Explain why plural pronouns can be used for a single person. If you own only one car, can you say it's actually two cars? If you own a Ford, can you claim it's a Ferrari? Explain why I can't become a professor at the University of New Mexico just by identifying as one and claiming to be one.

I would love to see this learned professor try to answer these questions.

There are people with rare genetic and physical abnormalities associated with gender, but that is not what the trans movement is all about. It is about claiming that people without those abnormalities can arbitrarily declare themselves the opposite gender from what they really are.

--- "...a rare condition that might need treatment."

We agree. From the too-many experts, there are stats and stats and stats, which disagree. Doing some simple arithmetic, I come to an estimate of less that 0.05 percent of the population in general. Given that something around 3 percent or less of all birth defects -- which itself are "fighting words" these days -- that makes hermaphroditic conditions a small topic in a larger, ongoing dialogue.

Nonetheless, it all comes down to what one does / wants to do with one's genitalia. So the whole "spectrum" is also BS. This is why the "B" in the LGBT+ community -- which isn't a community -- isn't "bi-sexual" so much as it is promiscuous, because the sex acts involve more than two. And in this, it is the antithesis of a most normal relationship in which "constancy" is so admired by many, and denigrated by the hedonists and ideologues.

Yes. It is an attack on the idea there are limits to what people can do.

This “thang” claims it is intersex. Might be true, it might be exaggerating. She scored a job DEI style for being a one in a million intersex mutant freak whatever. He status does not negate that their are only male and female sexes.

I was reading about the weirdly colorful nudibranch sea slugs found in Australia. They are hermaphrodites, have male and female sex organs.

Your post is spot on. I agree 100%.

As for those rare conditions, I never knew much about them before the uproar over that boxer in the Olympics. It turns out, many people born with those conditions never find out until they reach adolescence. So, for instance, they are raised as girls. When they don’t develop like most girls at puberty, the doctor runs tests and they discover they have a rare condition. It is devastating for them.

“ . It turns out, many people born with those conditions never find out until they reach adolescence.”

Years ago, there was no way to tell at birth what would happen at adolescence. With DNA testing, there should be almost no need for a mixup anymore.

Look at how hard they work to look funny.

Agreed. All newborns should be tested for these rare conditions so there is no confusion later on. All states mandate that newborns be tested for dozens of rare conditions. They should add testing for XX/XY chromosomes and paternity at birth, too.
