RIP --

He was best known for writing Carrie Underwood’s Grammy-nominated crossover hit “Jesus, Take the Wheel”

“Jesus, Take the Wheel” appears to be the common theme in the headlines out there.

These things do take time.

“EDITORS NOTE: This image has been converted to black and white”

Whew, that’s a relief! My eyes continue to deteriorate with old age and I was worried for a sec that my my developing cataracts had turned the whole world B&W.

RIP.

Read earlier that it was.a Cirrus SR22T aircraft. They have an emergency descent parachute in case of total power loss in-flight. Perhaps just flew it into ground. Very sad.

Buy a glider plane. It glides back to runway without crashing.

"Cirrus SR22T aircraft."

Have flown in one and it is reassuring, but you know one of the first three to deploy the parachute was a doctor in Indy and what do you know it landed in a lake and he drowned. Family got out. Heard elsewhere he was having a stroke but was conscious when the SR22T dropped into the lake.

I wouldn’t exactly call that one ‘catchy’, but there’s a song for everyone!

I stopped flying 5 years ago.

I was instrument rated and had endorsements for high performance, complex, and tail draggers.

Why?

I realized this is a sport that has a practical application (transportation), history, adventure, science and requires skill.

It’s the skill part that was a double edged knife IMHO.

While it was stimulating for the brain, truly enjoyable to be learning and thinking all the time, I also eventually realized that this is a sport that if you’re a part timer, an amateur and you really fly all over the country including inclement weather if you run across it, you’re gambling with your life.

I just didn’t do it enough (even though current) and had the varied experiences necessary to really feel proficient.

There were in particular two experiences, each with my family on board, where I felt I put everyone’s life at risk. Once I was flying into Boston for the first time in LIFR, the other time I was crossing the Appalachians, low on fuel and needing to land, at night, with mountain obscuration at Tricity.

I do not like flying with the airlines nor the TSA: invasive and stupid nonsense games, the waiting around, discomfort in a commercial plane which is more like a cattle truck, all the idiot rules on what you can carry, the unprofessional airline service today lacking any concept of customer service (they think you are there to serve them, as they bark orders)... But I prefer to stay alive.

That’s a good honest testimony about common sense over foolish risk. I think I’d feel the same way. Even more so than in a car, there’s no room for error when flying above the earth. Thanks for sharing.

Probably a stall spin accident. That aircraft does not like getting to slow. The debris field was not scattered but in a small area which is also indicative of a spin accident. The aircraft is not approved for spins. That is why it is equipped with an emergency parachute. He crashed very near the airport and probably in the pattern. He may have been too low to deploy the parachute or in panic did not?
