That dusty rock has both strategic and industrial value. It is also important as a possible future refueling station for Mars missions. If we plan to survive the inevitable extinction level event on Earth then we must have self sustaining colonies on Mars. That will take many centuries to establish so time is of the essence.

I know this to be the case since I worked at the Marshall Space Flight Center in 1973+.

Well, the Apollo program ended in 1972.

You are right that some documents, telemetry, and video footage were lost due to government incompetence...sorry, to "regain storage space", though.

Well, the Apollo program ended in 1972.

All of the Saturn people were still there. Skylab was placed in orbit using a Saturn V, and the Apollo was used to transport astronauts there and back.

At the time I was there all Saturn/Apollo documentation was in the documentation center. I retrieved quite a lot of material from that facility.

The government made a choice to discard documentation, as did the numerous contractors. Nothing was lost due to incompetence by that generation. I can't speak for the youngsters who followed.

All of the telemetry was stored on 9-track magnetic tape. There were large rooms with large shelves for them. The base material did not stand the test of time; and, 9-track tape transport machines eventually degraded beyond the scope of routine maintenance. Neither tape or the machines are made at this time; and, few machines work.

My job at Marshall was "data reduction". I wrote software for that purpose and handled a lifetime of 9-track tapes. Remember: "No ring, no write".

You missed them - very low key, out of sight of the MSN. Billionaires only sort of thing. Not for the general riff-raff.

Just getting a slot to book a single passage is over a million. If you have to ask how much the starter fair for the actual trip is, you cannot afford it, even if you think you have a lot of money; of course, deluxe and premium trips are much more - much more.

We’ve all heard the phrase “safe and effective” over the last few years, and pretty much all of us recognize it as a flat out lie.

There are no routine tourist flights to the Moon. If there were, nobody could miss them.

They would be affordable, too, by the way. Maybe not cheap though doable. Honeymoon stuff.

The why is that then you own the Moon’s enormous energy of position.

Heinlein defined a weapon as (paraphrasal) a device that focuses destructive energy on an opponent.

Heinlein’s “Loonies” put the two together, as can whoever lays claim to the Moon 1st...
