In 2027, we WILL return American astronauts to the Moon.

We won yesterday's space race. We'll win today's space race against China, and we'll always win tomorrow's space race.

@SpaceX's Starship test flight success moves us one step closer toward achieving that goal.

We were the first on our block to have the toy,” now nothing is gained except NASA jobs.

I figure there should be routine tourist flights in lunar orbit by now.

There are, you just missed them, and more are planned.

Space is expensive, and one of the biggest problems is Congress continually asking NASA to do more while cutting its budget. Maybe I3 Atlas will change some minds, as it passes through the Asteroid Belt and approaches Mars.

nuclear reactors on the moon. What happened to that idea?

NASA Director and talk show host, Duffy the Duffer, just expounded a version of that idea yesterday.

That's why NASA now admits that they don't know how to get back. The institutional knowledge walked was shoved out the door, in a major victory for the herds of short-sighted Luddites.

"The prestige factor has come and gone

The achievement, done six times in about 4 years, was so monumental that the "prestige factor" is indelible. If you weren't old enough to remember or even born yet when Apollo 11 did it the first time, your sense of it is not as immediate and powerful as it is for those who remember it.

...where the Sun literally never shines...

Take a close look at a full moon. You should notice that it is a complete circle, meaning the sun illuminates one complete side.

Pursuing any type of space travel is too.

Exactly why Christopher Columbus had to pursue funding from a different nation than his own.

They say that space should be colonized by private enterprise.

Private enterprise built the first round of moon landing gear. NASA didn't build any of it.

Radiation belt, multiples of rockets to drive the rocket there and back.

You guys need to brush up on your science and engineering knowledge. Apollo did indeed take astronauts to the moon. How do you explain the photographs of the landing sites made by Japan, India, and China? How do you explain those laser retro-reflectors, or the Surveyor camera that was brought back?

...There is no need for such waste....

Maybe we should have settled the West through the use of robots, too. It could have waited until now.

...took their notes and lots of other stuff with them...

There WERE copy machines back then; and, one could never grab originals from the documentation center. Patrons were never allowed "in the stacks". Copies were brought out to you. I know this to be the case since I worked at the Marshall Space Flight Center in 1973+.

Anything that was lost was due to government and corporate destruction of documents in order to regain storage space. The scientists and engineers took nothing away except knowledge and technique.

But, as we see with Space-X, younger engineers are fully capable of going through the entire process the second time.

If we have not met the goal Secretary Duffy should resign on January 1, 2028.

Nothing personal.

Nothing political.

Just—we need accountability.

They never spent one thin dime on the Moon! It was all spent on Earth.

The same could be said of welfare, food stamps, Medicaid, corporate bailouts, COVID stimulus, student loans and all other government entitlement programs.

All the money is spent in the U.S., so it's great for the economy!

NO!

Government spending to "boost the economy" is a stupid, socialist argument whether it's for welfare or NASA, food stamps or the military, student loans or foreign aid that's "spent on American weapons".

Great post.

There are some NASA fanboys around here who think everyone else should pay for their NASA communities to continue to live in the style to which they have become accustomed.

Welfare is welfare—no matter who gets it.

We are getting ripped off—and then they howl in pain and call us stupid and morons and anti-science when we call them out for it...

Science is no longer a priest-hood.

No more free rides.
