Almost every logo change freaks people out. We’re disturbingly addicted to corporate logos.
As long as they leave the Underwriters Laboratories logo alone.
Aunt Jemima was a real person................
The unifying factor behind these disastrous errors is that the marketing gurus dictating them are all girls.
The idea of Aunt Jemima being a slave never occured to me. I just thought she was a lady who made pancakes for kids.
It's only the racists who see race everywhere.
It’s not just logos but what they represent. People seem to have cultural and heritage attachments, and resent these symbols disappearing.
Except these “symbols” disappear all time. Logos change, it’s what they do. And it’s just for a faceless corporation that probably makes crap anyway.
I think it’s different when the corporate symbol is a ‘person’, a character around whom the public develops various connotations and even affection. (Even the old Cracker Barrel guy registers on a certain level as a ‘person’.)

I think people are just too attached. On of the entries on the list was Dunkin Donut changing to just Dunkin. No people in that logo. I remember when IHOP did that temporary stunt change to push their burgers, people lost their freaking minds. Really people, it’s just a logo.

Things have different meanings to different people. I don’t think attachment to one’s connotations surrounding a brand (which often go back to childhood) necessarily involves a value judgment or is representative of mental imbalance..

Who said I don’t care? Not me. I mean sure I don’t care about companies changing their logos. But the way people freak out is very interesting to me.
