Alternate day fasting gave the best outcome and was more effective than normal diets by 85.4% for blood and urine test results and it caused a weight loss that “outperformed continuous energy restriction in 56.1%.” That tells me it is more effective than limiting calories.

If interested in a five-day fast, consider the fast-mimicking diet from Prolon. It has real benefits with autophagy that kicks in on Day 3. The fasting food you are given makes your body think it is in a water-only fast. I have done this in the past and it really helps. You can get the whole five day diet for under $170.

I’ve been fasting for over 2 years. Not so perfectly around the holidays, but it’s easy to get back on track. I have lost a lot of weight and my blood work is all in normal range. I’ve 65 and am a breast cancer survivor. Usually eat 1 meal a day and do longer fasts from time to time. For those who are interested, I’d suggest starting with shorter fasts then work your way up. It becomes easier to fast longer.

Good luck!

fast-mimicking diet from Prolon

Expensive for what it contains. DIY-able? Or all proprietary?

Occasional fasting sounds like a good idea. I could certainly benefit from less food intake. I may start it today, as soon as I finish my dinner and maybe the dessert too, since both meals are already prepared.
No need to waste food, you know.

If people just ate well balanced meals of real food, their weight issues would largely take care of themselves.

But people want quick fixes and easy solutions, which is why taking a pill (Ozempic) is so much more popular than changing their bad eating habits.

It isn’t necessary to spend ANY money to burn fat! Goodness gracious.

I lost 75 pounds in maybe 8 months simply by restricting calories, and eating one meal a day. It is very simple, if not easy.

600 to 800 calories a day for rapid weight loss. 900 to 1000 for a more moderate rate. Eat all your favorite foods. Pizza, meatloaf, bacon and eggs, it really doesn’t matter, we will naturally gravitate towards high quality protein and fats, carbs just put one on a roller coaster ride of “hunger” pangs, that’s how we porked out in the first place.

Buy a gram scale and weigh out food carefully. Best to write it down. Every week or 10 days I’d allow myself to eat “unrestricted” or whatever.

What is the 5:2 diet?

The Cleveland Clinic explains...

In a 5:2 diet, you eat “normally” five days out of the week. These are your non-fasting days. The other two days are fasting days. You consume fewer calories on those days depending on your sex assigned at birth.

It sounded promising up to that crap. Hasn't Cleveland Clinic gotten with the program yet?

I figured it meant eating for 5 straight hours twice a day. I was off a wee bit.

I believe in and have practiced IF for twenty years or so. I definitely feel better when I do it, but the older I get the harder it is to do.

The best dieting method ever invented... Stop stuffing your face every time you walk by a buffet. Seriously... It’s called eating too much... That is why you are fat. It has nothing to do with your hormones or your genes. You’re eating too much food.

My mother, bless her soul, ate meat only during one meal on Sunday at dinner. And she fasted one day every month drinking only water. She never had any chronic or serious diseases and died of old age in sleep at age 103. I can’t remember her ever getting colds or coughs. While I was a magnet for flu bugs until reaching my 20’s.

Despite the incessant excuses found here

Weight is math

Calories in versus out

With slight metabolism variances per individual

And I’ve had graves since 1987 and empty sella since 93

So save it for the stupids

Therefore if you fast one day a week and save say 2500 calories you don’t gobble up next day then in a month you’ve saved 10,000 calories or around 3 pounds average adult human

So have at it

I would say, though, that fasting for physical health is a bit different than fasting for spiritual health.

Although they are not mutually exclusive - if you are fasting for spiritual reasons you can also reap the benefits of fasting for physical results. But not the other way around.

For blood sugar...

After a 24 hour fast, most people stay at a healthy glucose level for 72 hours.

After a 36 hour fast, most people stay at a healthy glucose level for 7 days.

On the other hand, bouncing back and forth from healthy to unhealthy glucose levels is probably quite stressful on your body.

Lots in this Biden economy are struggling.
Now they tell everyone, “It’s good for you to not eat everyday.”
It’s no longer “going hungry”.
Now it’s trendy “intermittent fasting.”

I was trying to research that prolon fast. I can't figure out if that $170 is for only 5 days total or like 5 days a month (170 a month). It seems very steep for a one shot 5 days.
