But surprisingly, a few of those foods are actually among the most disliked by the younger generations once the festive season rolls around.

A new poll by of 2,000 adults who celebrate Christmas, carried out by Aldi, has found that those born in 1996 or later are apparently “turning their back on” traditional favourites in favour of festive dishes with some sort of “modern twist”.

Read later. One of my faves is mince meat pie with my mom’s sauce.

A winter song that starts the playtime after Thanksgiving and runs until Christmas. Its a Christmas time song, try playing ‘Let it Snow’ in January-March in the north with doesn't cause snow shoveling rage. I live in the South, only time that song is acceptable is during Christmas time. Would cause massive confusion played after Dec. 25th.

It's the same with "Snowfall" or "Winter Wonderland". Neither are Christmas songs but they get lumped in because Obviously if you are singing about winter there is only one thing you can be referencing. Not sure what they do with "June in January". Not in any way shape or form a Christmas song but every now and then you hear it tossed in.

I remember once my mother served Brussels sprouts, and I thought “How wonderful! Cute tiny cabbages!”

Then I took a bite of one and learned that they are tiny evil simulacrums of cabbage.

I’m glad they have never been included in our Christmas celebrations. It’s hard enough to choke down the green bean casseroles...

Norwegian Roadkill aka Pinnekjøtt. As if Lutefisk wasn’t bad enough.

“For some, high on that list would be Fruit Cake.
There are some very good Fruit Cakes, and others that are almost diabolically bad.”

The best fruit cakes in the world are made in Corsicana Texas. I am being serious.

I also like everything on the list except cranberry sauce. I don’t like the jellied type, nor the type made with fresh cranberries. I just don’t like cranberries in any form.

I do, however, like almost every fruitcake I have ever encountered.

I look forward to Thanksgiving and Christmas specifically for the minced pie.

Thanks for the recommendation. I see they have Pecan Cakes too, maybe even Pecan Pie! This may call for a personal investigation ...by me!

Brussels sprouts are vile. The only human edible food a dog of mine would refuse to eat.

My fruitcake is delicious. Lots of fruit, raisins, dates, pecans, in a molasses batter. Wrap it in brandy soaked cheese cloth for 3 weeks or longer and it’s good to go. Good stuff.

After quizzing my dad what kind of fruitcake he liked, I tweaked and customized another recipe for him. Light (colored) cake, toasted pecans and walnuts, golden raisins, dried apricots, dates, candied cherries, and Grand Marnier. He really liked it so I made it for his December birthday for several years.

It’s definitely a process but one that I was glad to go through for my dad. I haven’t made one in several years now.

The Collins Bakery fruitcakes are absolutely phenomenal as are the Southern States fruitcakes.

I can’t find it around here anymore. I can’t even find the jars of filling these days.

I’m going to have to learn to make it myself...

One of our Freepers, sadly passed, now, called it ‘raisin pie’.

But it’s a lot more than that.

Brussels sprouts are good - but I would never boil them. I like them microwaved - they come out soft but not mushy. Just some butter, parmesan cheese and seasonings. Takes 10 minutes max (not counting cutting the stems off).
