A dog mauled its owner to death at her home in Boston, Massachusetts, on Monday before attacking police, NBC10 Boston reported.
Police identified the woman as 73-year-old Jeriline Brady-McGinnis.
Her husband was also badly injured during the attack, but is expected to survive.
Civil rights leader Jean McGuire, the couple’s landlord, lives above their apartment.
“She’s a wonderful person,” McGuire said about Brady-McGinnis. “She was generous and kind, always thinking of other people … We all miss Jeri. You don’t want anything horrible to happen to anybody, anywhere. She was a wonderful mother and a fine person, very respected.”
When police responded to the call that afternoon, they arrived to find the owners badly mauled.
While providing aid, the dog — a pit bull mix named “Deuce” — bit both officers, forcing them to shoot it, The Boston Globe reported.

Well honorable mention maybe?
They were breeding Pit Bulls in Boston. This wasn’t just a family pet.
Pit Bulls NEVER hurt anyone.....HA!!! They are EVIL DEVIL DOGS!!
>“Deuce” was a loving dog and wouldn’t hurt a fly.
The breed of peace
Yes, but just between us.
We had a Frenchie that attacked my Mrs L on three separate occasions. Needless to say that animal is no longer with us.
L
Not too far off from Arthur Conan Doyle's "Hound of the Baskervilles," though it was more of a general family legacy up for grabs rather than a life insurance policy for a spouse.
“a pit bull mix”
“It’s the owner, not the dog” ... defeated.
Reading through the comments it’s reported that she kept her dogs in cages and they would bark all hours of the day, the neighbors would call in and report them.
I’ve run into dogs that were over kenneled and to me, they’re nutters, difficult to adapt and if they do— it’s usually a slow trudge. Not all but most.
Wanted to add—
Lately I’ve read more about kids killing their parents than dogs killing owners.
One was an adult lesbian that killed her father for voting Trump. Crazy.
“She’s a wonderful person,”
Was. Shouldn’t have abused the poor animal.
I wouldn’t have a dog that i felt compelled to carry a sidearm around all day.
Right across the street from me is a trashy bunch of people. With SEVEN pit bulls in their back yard. All of us in this neighborhood are just waiting, in fear, for something really BAD to happen.
Not all of them.
It just depends on how the breeding expresses in the individual dog.
The problem is that you can never be sure.
The Dog of Peace, again.
Labs and Goldens are the best. Although the Goldens would probably escort the burglar to the safe and bark out the combination, they are such people pleasers. But such love bundles!
Don’t want to I suit anyone but my vet who firmly believe pits should be made extinct says, “antisocial people with antisocial Pit bulls are a deadly mix.”

I’ve heard that about Black Labs, but Lucy was a Fox red and, being red, was named after Lucille Ball. She’d match any black in enjoying a good time and being a party animal
