For decades Americans have been told bacon and butter are bad for our health - as well as too many eggs.
The reason? They are high in fat and cholesterol, which have been demonized for their apparent links to heart disease and weight gain.
But a doctor from Georgia who ate the breakfast trio for 30 days straight claims they actually made him healthier.
Dr Sten Ekberg saw his bodyweight and body fat go down, as well as his levels of insulin, glucose, triglycerides, cholesterol and indicators of liver damage.
Ekberg, a registered nutritionist, regularly conducts diet-related experiments on himself.
In March 2023, he ate nothing but junk food for ten straight days to see how it impacted his health.

He ate what he called a 'clean' keto diet, which included a lot of bacon, butter and eggs, but also leafy greens and vegetables and other meats like steak, fish and chicken for 30 days.
After ten days of eating nothing but junk food, Ekberg's bloodwork was alarming.
Not only had he gained 10lb in little more than a week, but his levels of insulin, glucose, triglycerides, cholesterol and biomarkers for liver damage increased between 19 per cent and 125 per cent.

Yes, I like to catch his vids.
Bacon is truly one of the greatest gifts.
Yes, we’ve had In N Out here in Texas for about 5 years now.
Woah. No wonder they’re going to Nashville. Halfway there.
I wish Publix would hear my pleas to come north of the Mason-Dixon line.
Agree!!
Eggs aren’t so bad, either! ;-)
I wish Publix would come to Texas!
What does the word “processed” mean?
For example, sausage is just ground pork and spices.
If I’m within an hours drive to a Publix when I’m away from home, I go out of my way to shop there. It’s in my bones. They really need to listen to me. They could make bank here in the Midwest. Kroger is terrible.
My own experience has been that I feel the best when I eat a diverse variety of foods. I have many friends who have tried many different diets which restrict their intake of entire food groups such as carbohydrates or on the other side of the spectrum... meat or fish. I have never known anyone who this worked out for well in the long term.
You are much better off if you eat an occasional fast food meal or some candy as long as you eat a variety of other foods as well and stay active. People who eat a bunch of crap and then do nothing but lay or sit around all day in front of a computer or other electronic devices are headed for trouble.
I’ve been on a “dirty carnivore” (meat and dairy) diet for 7 months. I’m a very short guy who was 0.1 BMI from being obese. I’m down 45 pounds and just bought new pants with a 28 waist. My goal is 50 pounds, so getting close.
It’s an easy diet to follow, because you’re never really hungry.
The key is that a high FAT, high protein diet satisfies your hunger with less food. The technique is to stop eating when your satisfied and your stomach naturally shrinks, since you’re not eating tons of non-nutricious fiber. FAT and protein just fill you up fast. That results in wanting even smaller portions.
Need a snack? Pop 4 slices of bacon in the air fryer. What diet plan could possibly be better when you can eat all the bacon you want?
The real benefit is you feel incredible. Way more energy (64yo here). I’ve stopped taking a few medications. Don’t need them any longer.
I was a carboholic my entire life. Potatoes and crackers and chips. But after two weeks, you no longer crave them. There are small temptations, but you rarely think about wanting them. In fact, you don’t think about food much at all. Which was a big difference where I rummaged for snacks all day.
Go to YouTube and watch some carnivore videos. Dr. Ken D. Berry is very informative.
For my quick snack I slice an avocado.
I’m in agreement. When you restrict yourself too tightly, you will likely have a problem. Just cut back, and enjoy that occasional food. Just make sure it’s occasional. Depriving yourself gets into your psyche, and messes with you.

That’s for sure.
We make sure to get our exercise in every day, rain or shine, summer or winter. Honestly, it’s a lot easier in the bitter cold than it is in the overbearing heat. I’m not sure why.
Most dietary studies are politically motivated.
Avocados are the best!
I don’t think a month of eating this stuff is enough to draw any conclusions.
Personally, I love eggs, hate bacon (and everything else that salty, , and have blood pressure like a teenager. I’m far older than this MD too.
My Grandmother ate eggs/bacon/butter/almost raw hamburgers, drank Screwdrivers or Bloody Mary daily and smoked unfiltered Camel Cigarettes. She lived to be 103...
