Hamburger vs. Hot Dog: Which Is Healthier?
Better Report ^ | 09/07/2024

Posted on 09/07/2024 7:05:21 PM PDT by SeekAndFind

It’s summer, which means beach getaways, frozen cocktails, and bad sunburns in the most annoying of places. It’s also the perfect time to hold a backyard barbecue and eat enough hamburgers and hot dogs to make Joey Chestnut proud.

Burgers and Hotdogs are two of the tastiest summertime staples, though they’re not exactly considered to be the most diet-friendly foods. But rather than compare hamburgers and hot dogs to salad, let’s compare them to each other. You may not realize there are certain dietary benefits that one offers over the other, so let’s take a closer look at which is healthier.

Comparing the Classics

There are so many types of hamburgers and hot dogs to choose from, from the standard beef-based versions to ones made of turkey, lamb, and plant-based ingredients. But for this comparison, let’s take a look at the stereotypical burgers and dogs that you often find at backyard barbecues. We’re talking about a 4-ounce hamburger made from 85% lean, 15% fat ground beef versus a traditional 1.5-ounce, bun-length, all-beef hot dog.

As long as they are properly balanced with large helpings of potato chips or french fries.

I make home fries all the time. It is so easy to make and taste better than frozen fries which are loaded with sodium.

Of course, one has to also consider, and carefully assess what vegetables are included with the burger or dog.

Really. I used to make fried all the time back when I had a deep fryer. Have to fry them twice, IIRC.

For dogs, I only buy ones that cost more and say ALL BEEF, figuring they have less random crap in them.

Burger meat, we pretty much what’s in it: Ground beef & fat.

Can I grow wasabi? I thought wasabi was derived from a radish (Daikon) and then colored green for some reason and I’m sure a slew of chemicals. Where are you getting “fresh” wasabi?

I grilled burgers tonight. I had two, with buns, with a little salt, mustard, ketchup, and onions.

it's not from a radish like daikon, it's horseradish. You grind the stem of horseradish plant into a paste. It's already naturally green.

Ulcerative Colitis?

That’s what I’m wondering as well.

For hot dogs your best bet is to “keep kosher”.

Lettuce, Tomato, Onions, Pickle

It's just a patty melt without them, not a proper hamburger/cheeseburger.

Same here.

Language warning - mildly offensive
You know what those are made of?

Such nonsense.

Beef burgers are healthy (maybe just eat half the bun and skip any sauces).

Dogs are loaded with what you do not want in you or anyone you like.

Not a mystery.

I grow it. You can buy starts or wasabi products from Oregon Coast Wasabi. There are a couple other companies also.

It likes cool marine climate with a growing season between 50’s and 70’s F.

They’re speculating and trusting you’ll be gullible enough to buy it so they can make some money.

There’s absolutely no proof either is bad for you.
