Supercharged September: Atlantic hurricane season to intensify dramatically
AccuWeather ^ | 08/22/2024 | Brian Lada

A surge of hurricanes and tropical storms will shatter the silence across the Atlantic Ocean less than three weeks before the peak of hurricane season.

Dry, dusty air kept most tropical activity across the Atlantic at bay throughout most of August, with Hurricane Debby and Hurricane Ernesto being the two exceptions. However, a major shift in the weather pattern will soon blow the doors wide open for a frenzy of tropical activity to unfold.

“I think things could get very active potentially very quickly here as soon as that dry air goes away,” AccuWeather Lead Hurricane Expert Alex DaSilva said, “We could see a parade of storms.” This dramatic increase in activity will start at the end of August and persist throughout September.

https://www.wwltv.com/article/news/local/the-breakdown/the-breakdown-how-accurate-are-early-hurricane-season-predictions/289-a6bc1f47-e11d-4348-ad99-ca743984e3bb

In 2020, named storms, hurricanes, and major hurricanes, all exceeded the forecasted numbers by NOAA and CSU. Where 13-19 named storms were predicted, the Atlantic Basin saw 30.

In 2021, the Gulf again was more active than predicted by both NOAA and CSU, with 21 named storms, after 13-20 were predicted. NOAA and CSU were accurate in predicting major hurricanes, of which the Atlantic Basin saw four.

But 2022 was a calmer year in the Gulf, on the low end of both organizations’ predictions. And 2023 saw slightly more activity than predicted.

All this to say: this far out, predictions are tough and things will definitely change.

Central Texas is having our first under 100 degree day in weeks - and no rain since 17 July.

I say Bring It!

hurricane seasons tend to intensify after they begin. and then they de-intensify until they stop.

I’m not a weatherman, but I just read a report that the Atlantic Ocean water temp has cooled dramatically. I would think that this cooling would have a great impact on the development of tropical storms/hurricanes.

The more storms you name the more catastrophic the weather is. I was hit by a breeze named mufasa so that’s proof . A truck went by and kicked up another storm which I named Peterbilt.

I can’t remember when we last had so FEW storms this far into August.

And look at the NHC today:

Quote: “There are no tropical cyclones in the Atlantic at this time.”

Not an invest, storm or wave. NOTHING.
