(CNN) — Consuming a drink with erythritol — an artificial sweetener used to add bulk to stevia and monk fruit and to sweeten low-carb keto products — more than doubled the risk of blood clotting in 10 healthy people, according to a new pilot study.
Clots can break off blood vessels and travel to the heart, triggering a heart attack, or to the brain, triggering a stroke. Previous research has linked erythritol to a higher risk of stroke, heart attack and death.
“What is remarkable is that in every single subject, every measure of platelet responsiveness (clotting) went up following the erythritol ingestion,” said lead study author Dr. Stanley Hazen, director of the Center for Cardiovascular Diagnostics and Prevention at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner Research Institute.

Retardation was around long before the major news networks yet like post-vaccine blood clots, its increasing in its consumers and true believers, too.
The picture is false. Equal is aspertame (+filler) and has no sugar alcohols.
I think the last time I had erythritol was in some sugar free gummies. My stomach let me know not to do that again.
But I get my information mainly from FR. I have read with my own cataract filled eyes than only mrna shots cause clots. It was waste to invent Eloquis clot dissolver medicine decades before mrna vaccines. Blood clots were unknown before covid.
Erythritol is a sugar alcohol. It is a chemically modified sugar molecule. Look, cooks and tastes like sugar, but will not digest. Causes severe gastro issue for many. The liquid lava and doubled over in cramps kind of issues. The Amazon reviews on sugar free gummy bears is a good place to read about sugar alcohols.
For KETO dieters and T2D, Allulose is the best and only sweetener that is not a franken molecule. Allulose is dubbed “sugars good twin.” It is a sugar that occurs naturally in figs and other fruits. The Allulose you buy is made from Fructose. It is technically a processed food, but a natural molecule is made. Your body won’t reject it, it just passes through your urine *and* takes other sugars with it. Worth reading about if you are needing help lowering your A1C.
Carbs and processed foods are the gateway drugs to metabolic syndrome and early death.
Five decades ago I decided I’d rather have sugar than any artificial sweetener. It took a bout of low-level cancer for my wife to do the same and give up Diet Coke. I once returned something to Costco that I didn’t realize had erythritol. It tasted horrible.
LOL!
Except for the bloating, gas, and diarrhea ...
Which not everybody gets ...
But those who do ...
It can be spectacular.
LOL!!!
Most of those, IMO, are works of fiction with a basis in reality.
Good question...Most likely some food industry group with ties to 'Big Sugar'. Unfortunately you have to buy access to the article to find out.
The margin of error for such a small sample is off the charts
Thanks for posting this. I keep some Splenda on hand for guests, but I just threw it in the trash. I also have an unopened box of Stevia/Monkfruit packets and that Erythritol chemical is listed as an ingredient on the packaging! Out it goes!
Ever get the feeling that you’re just a Lab Rat? Covid-BS19 sure hammered that home to me!
Coffee creamers are just full of chemicals. Trying hard to break myself of those, too. (There are some that are better than others - less chemicals, but more expensive.)
If you’re trying to get out from under too, try this recipe:
Homemade Coffee Creamer:
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1 ¾ cups skim milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract (Optional)
Mix. (A capped Mason Jar works great for this!) Refrigerate. Use before expiration date of the milk.
Nutrition Facts (per serving): 26 Calories, 1g Fat, 4g Carbs, 1g Protein
The notes at the site say that some people use more milk (2 cups+) because SC Milk is VERY sweet as it is.

No issues on these no calorie sweeteners? From what I’ve read there are plenty of questions that may raise issues. I stay away from any & all of that crap as much as possible.
Those gummy bears were made with maltitol and sorbitol which are a severe laxative to many, erythritol is the only sugar alcohol that doesn’t cause stomach issues unless you eat mass quantities. Allulose is a laxative if you eat too much of it.
Just f’ing fantastic! I literally just had a heart attack very early Friday morning, and the only sweetener I use is Stevia. Well, that’s changing as of right now. It’s going to be sugar, and I will gradually cut back on it because carbs in general create and worsen heart disease.
“Sugar-free” processed foods should not be a lifestyle decision.
I’ve been saying for over a decade that it’s no different than self-inflicted T2 diabetes:
One foot in the grave.
To me, this is *yawn* but I’m surprised that it actually got published.
I just avoid the lot. Cane sugar and honey work for me.
Not that I eat a lot of it.
This crap again?
People should have learned something from the “ saccharine causes cancer” episode. These food studies are absolute junk.
Cyclamates were used in the US during the 1960s and tasted the same (or better) than sugar. But then they gave lab rats the equivalent amount of cyclamate contained in a thousand cans of soda. Some of the mice got cancer. So then cyclamates were banned in the U.S. in 1969, and are still banned. But...cyclamates are used all over the world including Canada.
And there has never been a case where cyclamates were proven to be the cause of cancer in any human.
Wow.
First, a story from accuweather? Now that is a high bar for journalism. Second the first picture is not even of the item in question. It shows equal. Equal is maltodextrin and aspartame. In this case maltodextrin is the filler.
The product this article is about is Truvia which has stevia and monk fruit extracts. But the filler is erythritol (a sugar alcohol). Be vary careful of sugar alcohols, they can cause intestinal issues (bloating, gas, cramps etc).
They could used other fillers. I have grown Stevia plants and they make good sweeteners, but have a green taste. The erythritol helps balance the taste to be closer to sugar.
