Family meal at Dennys. How much you think it cost?
Self/Chat | 6/23/24 | Self/Chat

Ok, so, yesterday we went to Dennys.

My wife got a Cobb salad, no drink.

I and my son both got chicken fried steak and eggs (they call it country fried because people today think chicken fried steak has chicken).

I got coffee, the boy got a milkshake.

Three entrees, two drinks.

What do you think the total was after tax but before tip?

I’ll say in the comment.

One coworker had a bag of Doritos. He paid $6.99 for it.

Ya look at the prices of these 7-Eleven type greedymarts and it's stunning. It's almost understandable seeing people on videos going ape s*** in these places.

I would expect that house to be even higher in CA. It’s insane.

Ouch...we were keeping one of the grands yesterday and my wife didn’t have time to cook, so we ordered a single entree to split from a Thai restaurant and two orders of spring rolls. $35 before tax. I don’t know how people can continue to do that.

I’ve never made it through a meal without getting thrown out, so I wouldn’t be able to tell you.

“a hundred dollar bill ... use to be money.”

Sad, right?

the perfect silhouette of a rat walking on the transparent plastic neon light cover.

Maybe the rat was identifying itself as a Human Democrat voter. 🤓

In 1990, my hometown had a Denny's. I ate breakfast there one day, went to work, and went to have Dinner with my gf and we wanted to have Denny's, it was closed. My friend (who worked at the Denny's) said, the company told customers to leave the restaurant. Some were in the middle of lunch.

Fella is in CA. I can’t imagine most Chickfilas haven’t been shut down for “hate beliefs” or some such nonsense.

In my area the exact same meal would have been under $50.

Not much under but still.

It is California. You are paying for the ambiance. :)

Our local diner. Each of us ordered two eggs, breakfast links (3), home fries, coffee and two pieces of toast. $36.00 before tip.

I reminisce of the days going out for breakfast was dirt cheap...

The wife’s been craving Denny’s

It's not like it appears on the TV ads. I quit going there a long time ago.

A store-brand bag of chips that cost $2.00 in Walmart three years ago is over $5.00 today.

That’s Walmart and a store-brand, not 7-Eleven.

Way to go Creepy Joe!

I’m on the road a lot for my job. We don’t have any limits for expenses but I have always tried to keep dinner below $25. That’s the point I don’t need to turn in a receipt.

It’s even hard to do that for lunch sometimes now.

The media is lying when they say that inflation has had little effect on spending at restaurants. That’s obviously not true given the number of eating places that are closing. Especially in high cost, high tax states. Anecdotal stories such as yours tell us that people are recognizing the high costs and eating out less and less. They go once and realize they can’t do that again unless it is a planned-on special occasion. Families simply can’t afford it.

The increased costs are different from area to area and state to state. I met my cousin for lunch last week at a small town convenience store/cafe to help her with some paperwork she didn’t understand. We each had a plate consisting of chicken and three sides (with a roll). The total was $9.58 each (we left cash on the table for our tips). Four years ago, the meal was $6.58. In some states, that same meal would be $20 or more each.

Where the heck was this Dennys?? My hubby and I went to Sonny’s here in Florida. They have the best smoked bbq, (INHO). We both got an entre and water... it cost $20 plus tip. Dennys?? $72?? I would never go there again.

It’s because the dishwasher now makes $20.00/hr. Blame him.
