Ok, so, yesterday we went to Dennys.
My wife got a Cobb salad, no drink.
I and my son both got chicken fried steak and eggs (they call it country fried because people today think chicken fried steak has chicken).
I got coffee, the boy got a milkshake.
Three entrees, two drinks.
What do you think the total was after tax but before tip?
I’ll say in the comment.
“Restaurants are for people with money to blow. I haven’t been to ANY restaurant in probably 1.5 years because the last time I went I seriously felt I had been robbed.”
There are some workarounds for me but not many, and no workarounds when one’s wife doesn’t realize that restaurant prices have doubled in the past 10 years, while tips are now triple (with 20+ percent being demanded).
I went to a good restaurant. And ate better for cheaper.
$20 a meal is pretty close to the low end these days.
Try this one. About 75 years old! At the low price of only $739,000
And it's huge, 981 square feet
Built in 1950, with a big single car garage!
Hurry, don't wait!
Prices are crazy.
Quality sketchy.
Other restaurants would be $120.
Not fancy ones. Just better than Denny’s.
“That is why I only eat out on special occasions.”
And because of people like YOU*, society will change, and the idea of eating out every week will be something we tell our children about.
Anyway, we can only respond to conditions...and this is what our masters want for us.
*and me, for that matter
I was going to say 34 dollars. Yieks. I did a very liberal count of what you bought and I seriously thought 34 dollars which I thought was high. 72 dollars!!!!!
Yep. Yep.
Doubled in four years.
I think next time you cook at home, or eat out by yourself.
Thats CA for you. Although where I live, its not far off.
That’s why I posted this.
It dawned on me how much it’s gone up and we roll with it.
But it should be pointed out.
I presume CA, given your profile. So with $20 minimum wages and other factors, Iim not shocked.
The wife’s been craving Denny’s (I don’t believe that we’ve ever eaten there in the decades we’ve been together, and I haven’t visited that chain in probably 10 years minimum.
I’ll try to remember to report back after a now-pending road trip next weekend…
Yeah. I think it’s everywhere.
Here is probably the worst, though.
Just for giggles I tried ordering what you ordered in Mississippi and it came to $37 there.
Yeah, you are in Ca, so that explains a lot. For the main entrees it would have been about $45 here in Louisiana, looking up on the menu. They have two cobb salads that run from 12.69-13.55, while the chicken fried steak were about 15.50 each. They wouldn’t provide a price for a shake, and I didn’t bother looking up coffee either. But the overhead in Ca. has to be more than here.
$72 for dinner for three out? That sounds very reasonable to me.
Last time out for dinner wife and I shared a.large pizza supreme for $17. She had water. I had a beer for $6.
Last time out for lunch I had an excellent tuna melt and chips for $14. Ice tea with unlimited refills for $3.
It’s definitely a wake up call. I used to live Denny’s. I am sad at what it’s become. I haven’t been in ten years, but before that, it was the go to restaurant for my family of 6. Now they are all married, engaged and 3 of 4 out on their own. I’d have to take a second mortgage to take them today. lol.
Hubby guessed $61, but that was before I saw that you live in California. That would’ve changed his answer upwards.
