A man riding a dirt bike was shot by an officer with the Philadelphia Police Department's ATV enforcement unit, according to officials.
Just after 3 p.m., uniformed police officers were following a dirt bike rider in North Philadelphia, according to Deputy Commissioner Mike Cram.
The deputy commissioner said that the rider pulled into a gated area once he realized officers were tailing him.
When one of the officers approached the rider at 6th and Somerset streets, the officer explained to the rider that what he was doing was illegal in the city of Philadelphia, Cram explained.
During this conversation, the dirt bike rider showed that he had a gun, Cram said. This is when a second officer discharged his weapon and hit the rider twice.

The dirtbike riders are a scourge, flagrantly disregarding all traffic laws. For the past five years or so, little to nothing has been done about them so they proliferate everywhere in the city and suburbs, causing accidents and injuring themselves.
Thankfully, the new mayor of Philly is starting to crack down on them. No doubt there will be an outcry over this from the usual suspects.

Anti-police riots already?
Isn’t it a bit early in the summer for these?
I still have my BLM decorations up, so I’m good, but…

Seems justified. Not sure, he could have had a CCW and was just letting the officer know he was armed. Since the officer who was talking to him was not the one who used deadly force this could be a very unfortunate situation.
We need more information.

What does “showed that he had a gun” mean? That sounds different than “pulled a gun on the officer”. If the gun was legally-owned and was not pulled on the officer but simply showed to him, why would it be justifiable to shoot the guy?

Ah, yes... the South Park “He’s comin’ right for us” excuse.
“He had a gun. So I shot him.”
“Was he threatening you?”
“No. But he COULD have...”
Crickets.
A few million details missing here.

Swap dirt bikers for “left lane campers” and “idiots that don’t know how to zipper merge” next...

Yep ... the police should shoot anybody who has a gun. No questions asked.

With the information given, I’m thinking he exposed the firearm by moving, or lifting his shirt or jacket. That move toward the gun is what got him shot.
Two hands in the air, while informing police you are in possession, verbally, would probably ended up differently.

Horrible training (of the cops) is what got him shot.

What will really be fun is when the South American gangsters acquire more mopeds and really get going on moped hits and robberies. It is already starting but no where near the levels in Caracas....yet.

I need more details. I was pulled over by State Troopers, one on each side of the car. They asked if I was carrying anything. I had a CCW. I said yes, and they asked where the gun was. It was easy as I could keep my hands on the wheel, and they could see the weapon on my hip when I adjusted my position. It's not so simple on a motorcycle. Did they ask the bike rider if he was carrying and where the gun was on his person? Was he threatening or complying?
Did the second officer panic and shoot?

Explain, please.

It's really interesting to see how the media manipulates people. The way the author phrases this story makes it sound completely innocuous. "Showed that he had a gun" makes it sound like you and your buddy are checking out each other's legally owned firearms in your house. The author then paints a picture that the cops just started blasting.
It really is amazing. I went to the author's twitter page, and it's exactly what you'd expect. Filled with gay pride and ruth bader ginsburg and obama and all the rest. Do not trust a single word written in this article.

You mean dirt bikes that are not street legal? Mine is street legal, licensed and insured. It’s a street legal “dirt bike” or what they call a Dual Sport motorcycle. You meet the nicest people on Dual Sport motorcycles!
