A blast from the past!
1:05 VIDEO AT LINK.
I'd buy that !
We just paid $2000 for a new LG fridge that I hate..........
If anyone needs a new washing machine, the speed queen is still one of the most reliable and long lasting according to reviews. It is the preferred machines for laundromats too apparently, likely for a good reason.
The gubmint has ruined water heaters as well. many times more expensive and like our autos, more complicated (less durable).
Repairman said much the same. Advised me to avoid new appliances. Modern, Internet connected, Refrigerators, dishwashers, laundry machines, etc are all unreliable junk.
I have a small bar fridge from my college days. Been running continuously (except for defrosting) for almost 50 years.
The old American made appliances were surely better. To get decent new appliances, we go to a long established independent local retailer. We ask for their recommendations as to reliability and durability and then pay what it takes.
We had a couple of front loaders that were ALWAYS a problem. We had to leave the door open when not washing to reduce mold and they didn’t wash that well.
Today, let's me honest, we have planned obsolescence in most if not all products. It's not just a word, things are made to last 10-15 years, on purpose.
If you think you hate it now, just hang on to it for awhile. LG refrigerators are garbage.
Samsung and LG are the same company....................
I know. It’s our second one. Our first crapped out while under warranty and they replaced the compressor, gratis.
The repairman told us the new one wouldn’t last more than a year.
He was right............
About 12 years ago, my wife insisted she “needed” a new fridge with an icemaker. I had to replace the cheap, plastic gearing twice. It finally died and we got a much simpler model.
Probably using that evil refrigerant R 12. The original Freon.

Now if we just had planned obsolescence on our Congress critters...
Yep, so they "sell" a liquid cleaning agent to help reduce the mold. How about design them to not have mold, sheesh.
My mom bought a Kenmore washer dryer set in 1980, she passed away 4 years ago I ditched my NEW washer dryer and adopted her 1980 Kenmore set, my washer that I ditched was a top loader HOWEVER it had NO agitator I HATED that the damn thing also had to have some circuit board replaced twice because the washer would not let the water in to fill the machine!! My mom’s Kenmore is 45 years old in perfect condition AND still runs like a champ it really is quite AMAZING!! My mom was a stickler about moving out appliances EVERY month and vacuuming all dust inside, under, behind ect. I have followed this practice my entire life with stoves, refrigerators ect. I work part time at Home Depot I can not believe the cost of appliances AND they are utter garbage!!!
At our old house we bought a new central AC after the one that came with the home gave up the ghost. It was a Sears Kenmore and had lasted well over 20 years, so we bought a new Sears Kenmore to replace it.
It came with a ten year warranty on the compressor. We babied that thing and washed it and cleaned it every year, covered it up in winter and it was placed in a shaded area so it would stay cool. It died just over ten years old. But it looked brand new!..............
Our icemaker lasted abut 6-8 years. Part is about $200 if I replace it myself. I just turned off the water valve, most common damage claims in homeowners policies are from, yep, refrigerator water leaks from ice machine hook ups.
That ‘Ozone Hole’ is still there...................and will be forever................
One of ours went after 15 years, guy said they last 15-20, the other still works. We replaced the one with a Trane, we'll see.
Of course, we run ours in NYS for about 4 months a year. Not like FL.
In the early years of this century, I used a 1959 rotary phone and loved it for the sound and for the feel of the receiver in my hand. The phone was solidly built.
Unfortunately, most of the calls I make today are to businesses that use voice mail, so I have to use a modern phone.
I don't know which is worse--the party lines of the 1950s or the voice mail of today.
