About 12 years ago, my wife insisted she “needed” a new fridge with an icemaker. I had to replace the cheap, plastic gearing twice. It finally died and we got a much simpler model.
Our icemaker lasted abut 6-8 years. Part is about $200 if I replace it myself. I just turned off the water valve, most common damage claims in homeowners policies are from, yep, refrigerator water leaks from ice machine hook ups.
