Man, isn't the news just great sometimes? Like this story about a human skull that was dropped off at a Goodwill in Goodyear, Arizona.
Seriously, that's so strange.
Why would someone drop off a human skull in a Goodwill donation box?
That's such a boneheaded move!
The skull was placed in the donation box at a Goodwill in Goodyear, Arizona, a southwestern suburb of Phoenix, by an unknown donor.
It was discovered by Goodwill staff on Tuesday, who reported it to the police, per company protocol, and continue to cooperate with the police investigation, according to a spokesperson for Goodwill of Central and Northern Arizona.
Police responded to reports of the skull discovery and took possession of what was believed to be "an actual human skull" at the Goodyear Goodwill.
A photo provided by police shows the skull was covered with dark black spots, with the upper front teeth still attached and a false eye set on the left eye socket.
Here's what that skull looked like when it arrived at the donation center: \
Just in time for Halloween, figured somebody might want this, we're done using it.
Meanwhile, Great Aunt Lisa's six feet under and missing her head. Just kidding, there is no Great Aunt Lisa in the story, thought that would be cool.
As for whether or not this skull was part of a crime, it doesn't seem so. Maricopa County Medical Examiner filed it under the "historic" section. So I guess it's not, like, a murder or anything, so that's good.
Either way, strange story. You really never know what you're going to come across in one of those Goodwill donation bins.
Please forward to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. W.D.C. where it is in dire need....
There’s already an empty skull there.
There are a lot of empty skulls in DC.
Yorick I knew him well...
Was there a sign? "Human Remains Depository?"
Regards,
Well, we know a retired physician who owns (owned?) a human skull. It was left over from medical school days.
IOW - there are legitimate reasons for a human skull to end up in a donation box. Is it a bit weird? Yes.
You would prefer that it was put in the garbage can?
How else could one deal with this?
Bury it in a cemetery.................
Nothing to lose your head over.
Aunt Jenny Johnson made a skull
Soap Dish from her enemies during the Civil War and used it daily till she died.
So.e folks can’t let go....
I remember reading how 125 years ago it was “chic” to have a human skull on the mantle piece. One man back then even was robbing graves for skulls.
Here is a link to artist Fredrick Remington in his home.
Could have been from anywhere... it would be a shame if It could have been from an old Confederate grave that rose to the surface after years of erosion.
A colleague who had been with Ma Bell decades before we got into a different engineering concentration having to do with antenna contracts told me a lot of times lineman out in the sticks doing service work would come across bones laid out in a ditch. I asked how often he said more often than you would even consider, not every day but every now and then a pile of bones would be discovered.

Well, it’s not like is was being used or anything.
Hey, only one owner!
Just how often do they empty that thing?
When I was about 6 or 7 years old, in very rural north Mississippi, I was raised by my grandfather, and would accompany him when he would go to visit his friends, who, of course, were all elderly also.
When we went to this one guy’s place they sat on the porch and were talking about ‘old times’ as I was playing on the steps.
There was some road construction going on in front of the house and bull dozers and road graders were busy moving earth for the new highway.
Suddenly the old guy tapped me on the shoulder and pointed to a ridge of trees across the road and said in a very serious voice, “There’s a Yankee soldier buried over there on that ridge.”..........................
