Could have been from anywhere... it would be a shame if It could have been from an old Confederate grave that rose to the surface after years of erosion.
A colleague who had been with Ma Bell decades before we got into a different engineering concentration having to do with antenna contracts told me a lot of times lineman out in the sticks doing service work would come across bones laid out in a ditch. I asked how often he said more often than you would even consider, not every day but every now and then a pile of bones would be discovered.
When I was about 6 or 7 years old, in very rural north Mississippi, I was raised by my grandfather, and would accompany him when he would go to visit his friends, who, of course, were all elderly also.
When we went to this one guy’s place they sat on the porch and were talking about ‘old times’ as I was playing on the steps.
There was some road construction going on in front of the house and bull dozers and road graders were busy moving earth for the new highway.
Suddenly the old guy tapped me on the shoulder and pointed to a ridge of trees across the road and said in a very serious voice, “There’s a Yankee soldier buried over there on that ridge.”..........................
