Spam. As we get into the election cycle, my inbox and spam folder are filled with spam from campaigns. I donated to Cruz in 2015-2016, still get repeated mail despite unsubscribing. I donated to Trump 2016-2022, still get repeated mail despite unsubscribing. I get spam from local, national, and obscure candidates from around the US. Some days, half the email I receive is political spam warning of this or that calamity and begging for money. Unsubscribe is futile.
I sometimes wonder if failed and past candidates are making money off of selling my email and snail mail addresses to campaigns around the US.
I like to send notes back in place of a donation.
You should try registering as an independent.
You get spam from every party’s hopeful!
Change your email address by one letter or number. They will not stop...............
Or, nuke it from orbit..................the only way to be sure...........
Wonder no more.
They are...................
Over the years, we’ve seen many comments like yours here on FR.
I’ve paid attention to them, and as a result I NEVER donate to any political cause.
Especially Win Red. Just a few hours ago, some poor FReeper posted about how Win Red is ripping off his father.
Drag the emails over to the Spam folder and teach your email client what’s spam
I have a spam catcher gmail account for just this kind of stuff. Only friends and familiars have my regular email
I have found out that clicking on the “unsubscribe” link is a mistake and can get you more spam, because some of the “unsubscribe” links are illegitimate. A better option, if your email provider has this option, is to mark it as spam. If it is a legitimate site, rather than a telemarketer of dubious integrity, your email provider will then ask if you want to unsubscribe. You can then do so. If the source is not legitimate, your email provider will simply move it and another future emails from that source to your spam folder. Clicking the “unsubscribe” link on an illegitimate email will only get you more illegitimate emails.
I have a dump email that I give out for all those kind of transactions. It has ballooned over the years so that I am getting about 80 a day and that doesn’t include all the ones Yahoo filters out for me automatically because they are conservative by nature. I do that so every once in a while I mass delete and don’t have to sorry about losing anything.
Yahoo never seems to filter any democrat or liberal mail that I have seen, just conservative ones.
I’ve always been an independent voter (in my state, they’re called ‘unaffiliated’). And except for one person running for a local office, I can’t ever recall being hit up for donations by anyone.
You occasionally give $250 to these money sponges, and you wonder why you get Spam?
I have found out that clicking on the “unsubscribe” link is a mistake...

This is true.
Unless you are getting an email from a legitimate entity, the unsubscribe button does nothing of the sort. By hitting unsubscribe, you are actually pinging back to them that there is a living, breathing target on the other side of that email address, and they will simply double down on their efforts to solicit from you.
Like another responder said in this thread, drag the bad emails to your junk folder. Many email services learn from you flagging mail as junk and will be more likely to automatically junk it for you in the future
Try reporting as phishing
Poster above mentioned WIN RED. They are relentless. I dropped out of RNC 20 years ago and still get snail mail. Also, if you use a credit card to donate all will get your phone # as well as email addy. And political calls are allowed even if on No Call List. Go figure.LOL!
Even legitimate entities often pay no attention to ‘unsubscribe’ requests.
I retired last year, and still receive emails from almost every vendor or department I had business with, no matter how often I unsubscribe.
Yes, it is funny how that works. I've had email hosted with a variety of hosting, including Google Gmail and the political bias is clear.
The party now has all names and addresses. Candidates get them from the party
Unsubscribe does work for some that don’t go to the trouble to use a different send address STOP
does infact reduce the text crap.
