NATIONAL GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICH DAY
Each year, National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day on April 12th recognizes one of the top comfort foods in the United States. Why wouldn’t it be when we’re talking about bread grilled to perfection, and warm, gooey, melted cheese.
#GrilledCheeseSandwichDay
According to food historians, many cultures around the world have enjoyed cooked bread and cheese since ancient times. The United States modern version of the grilled cheese sandwich originated in the 1920s. As sliced bread and American cheese became easily available, Americans began making open-faced grilled cheese sandwiches.
United States government cookbooks describe Navy cooks broiling “American cheese filling sandwiches” during World War II.
Grilled cheese sandwiches are versatile thanks to the ability to mix and match cheeses, bread, and seasonings. Adding sauteed vegetables or herb-infused oils can elevate this simple comfort food to a whole other level.

Grilled Cheese Sandwich + Tomato Soup = Comfort Food.
This was at a place called The Cake Bake Shop that has two locations in the Indianapolis area, and one opening soon at Disney World. It’s a frilly, flowery place and I went there with girlfriends. It seemed very European to me. The food, service, and ambience were all excellent.

That’s a made up holiday I can get behind.
It absolutely is comfort food. When it’s a chilly, rainy day, it’s one of my favorites.
Since you’re a bacon lover, have you ever tried using Cotswold cheese with bacon on a hearty bread for grilled cheese? It’s so good. That’s what we use sometimes when we want to change things up. And the bacon? The thicker, the better.

Now we now who buys the bridges?.

When I was a kid, my aunt used to make butter for us and sometimes in spring the cows would eat wild onions that sprouted up all over the pasture, so the butter had a natural onion flavor!......................

Mmmm, another favorite way to make a grilled cheese sandwich!
Ahh, the good ole days, huh? We didn’t know how good they were sometimes.
I grew up in a very rural area.
TV was black & white and we had two TV stations. People closer to Memphis had three...................
Yes!
I don’t remember how many stations we had, but I think it was three. Sometimes we lived in a rural spot, and others in small cities. We moved a lot when I was a kid, at least for a while. When I was 14, I figured we were going to be moving again, because it was often a two or three year stint at each place. It was nice not to have to move anymore…until I moved out and was on my own.
From December 1968 - December 1969 I attended 5 different schools in 4 different states...........
