Conservative analyst and author Candace Owens claims staff at a Tennessee hospital attempted to hold her and her newborn daughter hostage after she gave birth earlier this summer - telling her she was not allowed to leave until they drew blood from the hours-old, perfectly healthy child.
Speaking exclusively with DailyMail.com, the 32-year-old slammed staff at Saint Thomas Hospital in Nashville, while recounting the '24 hours of torture' she says she suffered after giving birth to her second child Louise on July 13.
The mother-of-two, who launches the new DailyWire+ podcast, Candace, on Monday, said the alleged mistreatment started after she declined antibiotics and contraction-inducing drugs while going into labor. She added that it culminated in staffers threatening to call child services on the right-wing commentator.
Owens - who married British Oxford grad George Farmer in 2019 - further accused staffers of engaging in a concerted effort to empty her wallet, by keeping her for over 48 hours so her stay was not covered by insurance.
When she refused, Owens says that a hospital pediatrician approached her and her husband as they tried to leave, callously telling the couple 'that she watched a baby die in the 47th hour because her parents refused to stay.'
The pair ignored the staffer, Owens says - despite the workers' false assertions that her insurance would likely not cover the visit if she went against medical advice and left.
When Owens responded that she didn't care, a social worker employed by the hospital asked the couple to sign a document that said they were aware that The Department of Children's Services (DCS) could pay them a visit for leaving against doctor's orders, according to Owens.

Only a few on this site and she isnt one of them. You holier than thou types completely ignore pfizer own documents and instead rely on left wing sites to argue your position.
“ LOL Physicians don’t do basic research. Most don’t read the literature much less understand statistics. Power and effect size are foreign words to them. “
Much of their information comes from overpaid fabulous pharmaceutical reps.
MDs are salesmen. In a very big way.
It’s done at birth along with other screenings. I don’t think it’s done at 48 hours but I certainly could be wrong.
A PKU test is done by a CNA within an hour of birth. It’s like a finger stick glucose test it’s a swipe of peripheral blood onto a test strip
Anyone that wants to pretend Candace Iwens and her prestigious husband were raging about a PKU test might want to check their thinking.
She is trying to be a victim. Just another low IQ conservative bringing bad name to the movement.
“if you don’t want to follow the laws the state sets…move to another state.”
Your statement has some merit. Still, there are a few things to consider.
Was she given literature that explained state law and hospital procedures? Probably not.
Do you read all the legal fine print provided to you? Probably not. I don’t. Most people are trusting. Also, most businesses are customer oriented. We trust business, and that trust is generally rewarded.
What percentage of couples study state laws before deciding where to work, by a home, and have a baby? Probably a lower percentage that the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, or .04%.
Medical staff mean well. They will do their best, AFTER satisfying constraints set by multiple regulatory agencies and insurance companies. The patient/customer, or their family representative, should have the last word. Too often, that is not the case.
What are the chances of that? 1 in 100,000?
I do not trust Candace Owens’ judgement; never have. She always seemed fake & perhaps a tad unhinged.
A friend of mine had beta strep and her baby came down with meningitis 2 weeks later. Was in the icu for a while. He developed brain damage, with some developmental delays.
It’s BS because YOU didn’t have the same experience?
>>The real problem is that we have lowered the threshold for “under the influence” to ludicrously low levels, both in this instance and for DUIs.
Thank the mad mommies for getting that ball rolling (Mothers Against Drunk Drivers), with an assist from the lawyer-industrial complex.
Then why go to a hospital? The dislike for physicians and nurses is high here. If you all don’t like doctors, rig up your own surgical suite at home. Ask your family for help. Maybe you can get topical lidocaine to numb up the area and make your incision with a steak knife.
Its funny that people complain about physicians, but run to the ER when something goes wrong. Stay home, they are busy enough. They don’t need the attitude.
I’m so sorry. bless that precious child. Group B strep is nothing to mess with. May God give your friend strength and perseverance in raising a delayed child.
And yet they won’t let you call a taxi cab either. It has to be someone you know, or some appoved form of medical transport. You can’t just call Uber and have them take you home. They won’t release you.
What is that about?
Franklin TN is the new “it” place for the wealthy in the southeast who aren’t heading to Florida.
Wow you really have no idea who does the test no and I mean no CNA would draw the test ever period full stop
I just moved cross country and don’t know a soul, so I don’t have any “trusted person” so do I just forego ever having another colonoscopy? Die from colon cancer instead of getting a cab ride home?
Can I take a bus or taxi home by myself after my procedure?
No. Due to the sedation given during the procedure, you are considered impaired. The sedation medication impairs your judgment and reflexes. A trusted person must be with you to accompany you on public transit.

Many people are released from same day surgery while they are still effected by local anesthesia. Having a person stay with you for a few hours after you get home might keep you from walking on a recently operated on foot, for example. An Uber driver will just drop you off.
I really don’t need to hear all the details. I have experienced sufficient similar experiences with hospitals to know this is SOP.
If you have a choice, a realistic alternative, do not get admitted to a hospital.
