In vitro tests showed that meat-substitute peptides were less water-soluble than those from chicken, and they also were not absorbed as well by human cells. With this new understanding, the researchers say the next step is to identify other ingredients that could help boost the peptide uptake of plant-based meat substitutes

“Plant based meat” is not meat.

Exactly. The salad or vegetables I have along with my beef, chicken or pork is plant based. My main entree is often animal based.

If it’s plant-based, it’s not meat.

I am a meat eater from way back and the childhood experience with veg meat substitutes does deserve the comments on this thread, however the science behind Impossible Foods is new.

They have formulated a meat taste product that is close enough to satisfy if you have chosen the veg lifestyle. So for those people it is a step in the right direction. I see that the article did not address the Impossible Foods product but made some of their own. That is not good ennough for me. Please test the absorption of Heme from Impossible.

If lawn clippings are so yummy, why are they going through the trouble of making them look and taste like meat? Why not just a handful of grass clippings on a bun? Yum. Tasty fake burgers. Perfect for sitting on the couch watching DNCNN’s “mainstream media” fake news.

Protein absorption from foods with 30g of protein:

Egg White: 5g (25g undigested)
Whey Protein: 5g (25g undigested)
Soy: 5g (25g undigested)
Meat: 10g (20g undigested)
Whole Egg: 15g (15g undigested)

Whole eggs are by far the best source of protein.

Personally, I don’t absorb any protein at all from plant-based “meat”. That’s because I won’t ever eat the stuff.

What you need is some fat to feel satisfied.

The war on fat has made people who eat veggies and low fat chicken breasts perpetually hungry.

Dr. Sten Ekberg reviews different sources of protein:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHNHpPGlvSY

The winner is whole eggs. The body assimilates 48% of the protein in whole eggs, vs only 30% for meat. Egg whites are in the low 20%. Also plant based is in the low 20%.

There is a YT video out there of an animal rescue, trying to get a starving stray dog off of the freeway.

One of the rescuers trying to use an Impossible burger as bait.

The starving dog, who would eat feces if he smelled any food value, wasn't having any...

“As anyone seen the words “natural” on any of this fake stuff?”

Natural fake meat, coming to a yuppie grocery store near you. BTW, have you noticed that yuppie specialty food stores are carrying more meat and fish? They carry it because it’s profitable.

Re: Undigested

That raises an interesting question.

How much of the protein on food labels is undigested?

On most food labels, 60-65 grams of protein equal 100% of the Minimum Daily Requirement.

Two or three ounces of amino acids per day is all we need to survive?

That sounds crazy.
