Ok, so today I ordered meals from 4Patriots (33 days supply) and freeze dried beef (19 separate servings) in anticipation of severe food shortages being predicted.
I really hope I don't have to use them, but I'll have them just in case.
My question is, does anyone have any recommendations or specific companies you've used to order the same type of thing?
If so, did you like them?
I have a small pile of freeze dried Mountain House stuff I bought over the last year or so. Maybe 2-3 months worth for two. That plus canned and frozen stuff, rice, beans, etc., I probably have 7-9 months of food on hand. Looking to increase that in the near future, in a move process at the moment. It’s complicated.
I don’t have any space left.
Everything is packed.
been working at it for a while.
Full pantries also mean you can share your blessings with others in need.
did you try whatever food you bought before you bought it ?
I once bought some Mountain Stuff to try at home.
I loved the Beef Stroganoff it was really yummy, BUT for the next 2 days I wished I was dead, it was far worse cause I was offgrid camping, and I ran out of Toilet Paper.
Fortunately I had napkins and then paper towels.
Fill several 5 gallon jugs with gas as well, and add Stabil so it lasts a few months through the coming fuel shortages.
Emergency Food Supply = local zoo.
It burns my grits I have to “collect” out of fear. 😡
It would be nice if we could sue the government for damages.
My daughter is a JIT shopper so I’ll pry have to supply food for her family as well, which I’m happy to do. Hopefully, the need will never arise but it’s nice to know we’d survive for a while if it did.
Each time I go out grocery shopping I’ll buy extra canned goods. Vegetables, meats, powdered milk, sugar, flour, etc. Stocking up on emergency firewood, too.
Thanks. I’ll try again. But since they have fat in them, I’d probably store in freezer if keeping for any length of time.
I like Broccoli-Cheddar soup, and that’s the only one I’ve found that you can buy that isn’t fresh and refrigerated.
We have about a 6 month supply for 3 people. Also, have plenty of snacks, beef jerky and other “quick” eat items.
A life straw for water-—or a good 50-100 gallon water heater to store water to drink.
Ammo to protect it all and a nice garden and fruit trees.
Medical supplies, especially some sort of penicillin (aquatics type work),
Excellent post. Bear creek is good stuff.
For bulk where you can cook and prepare in a kitchen, Numanna or Valley Food.
Then, supplement from places like Augason and others.
We have the bulk preps from Mountain House as well as wheat, etc. from Augason and Valley. We also have 6 months of canned and boxed food ready to go as well as full freezers of meat.
Eggs are almost the perfect food that supply most of your nutritional needs. If you have a steady supply of eggs, you will never go hungry.
If I try to store food I end up wearing it around my waste.
my suggestion to everyone is have a 1 year supply of food in your house. You don’t need to spend a lot to set this up. buy some bulk staples. I keep 200 pounds of rice on hand along with 200 pounds of dried beans. this has a real long shelf life and I suggest buying recently harvested rice and beans. I then suggest lots of canned goods along with spices. powdered beef and chicken bouillon is also good to have in your survival pantry. Another thing to keep on hand is oil for cooking. remember that moisture and temperature is your enemy in storing food items so do not store any of this where moisture is an issue or where the temperature fluctuates to much. so the garage and shed is not good for storage of food items if you plan to keep it for more than 3 years
Why did you choose this approach instead of just stocking up on canned and dry goods that you can always eat on a normal day? I’ve got close to a year’s supply of foods that we normally eat, etc.
Your experience reminds me that if one eats lots of MREs you can get constipated.
I got a food sealer to seal up flour, beans and such.
Bump for later.
I have a Sun Oven and has easy set up with a self leveling pot and handles and temperature gauge. Once open, need to adjust the angle according to the Sun angle. It can actually cook food rather just warm and can pasteurize water or even sterilize instruments.
