Today I bit the bullet and ordered emergency food supplies

Ok, so today I ordered meals from 4Patriots (33 days supply) and freeze dried beef (19 separate servings) in anticipation of severe food shortages being predicted.

I really hope I don't have to use them, but I'll have them just in case.

My question is, does anyone have any recommendations or specific companies you've used to order the same type of thing?

If so, did you like them?

Our generator is in a shed outside. Hubs runs it a few minutes every couple of weeks to test it. Otherwise, it isn’t used unless we lose power, which rarely happens. It’s a comfort knowing it’s there.

My biggest challenge in food prepping is having a teenage son that has an inexhaustible appetite. So, I have to buy emergency foods that are almost unpalatable or require a lot of effort to prepare. I swear that kid can eat 10k calories a day and not gain an ounce of fat.

I’m pretty sure that in my immediate neighborhood, almost nobody else is thinking about this.

I don't know. Maybe not. The article I posted below says that food prices will double what they are today by October.

Buy nutritious food that you don’t like

There are only three things that you need to stock up on for emergencies. Barley, yeast and hops.

Well. I was suspicious of the claims as well. So I sent off a filtered water sample to a testing company. It was rather expensive. The test results said that the filtered water from our catch basin was potable. So if you want peace of mind ya have to test the filtered water. I had no confidence in the cheaper test kits I found on Amazon.

Tuna, spam, sardines, kippers and canned chicken can all be had cheaper at the grocery store. They will also make excellent small trade goods.

Something I always notice on these prepper threads is no discussion of human waste and other waste.

First a pointed shovel.
Peeing is not much a problem.
Feces: a 5 gallon bucket and plastic liners. Plus, a comfortable seat...think toilet seats on top.
Food waste is an easy one.
Other waste like plastics may need to be buried.
Place? Depends on what type of waste and how much digging room and/or lawn and planter boxes.

Also, if you don't want too use your potable water, and goodly supply of baby wipes can be used for whore showers. Only need use them a couple times a week and only in certain body areas.

Other suggestions?

I grew up eating kippered herring, and love it. But that’s another thing that’s gotten much more expensive here.

It wasn’t that the C-rats were so bad.

No.

The “Ham and (lima) Beans” were ghastly.

That is a great idea! Do you have a particular model y’all like?

We have PLENTY of humidity, here 😂

I saw a water dispenser advertised....that ‘creates water’ out of air. Probably just a glorified dehumidifier...with some sort of filtration system attached.

Good stuff but very pricey. You can do much better buying bulk rice, beans, and pasta.

Learn how to pressure can and you’ll have more prepared food than you can store.
