GlyNAC improves multiple defects in aging to boost strength and cognition in older humans (Some defects “reversed to the levels found in young adults” - eGFR up 15%, IL-6 down 77%, TNFa down 40%, Fasting Insulin down 55%, etc.)

A pilot human clinical trial conducted by researchers at Baylor College of Medicine reveals that supplementation with GlyNAC—a combination of glycine and N-acetylcysteine as precursors of the natural antioxidant glutathione—could improve many age-associated defects in older humans.

The results of this study show that older humans taking GlyNAC for 24 weeks saw improvements in many characteristic defects of aging, including glutathione deficiency, oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, inflammation, insulin resistance, endothelial dysfunction, body fat, genomic toxicity, muscle strength, gait speed, exercise capacity and cognitive function. The benefits declined after stopping supplementation for 12 weeks. GlyNAC supplementation was well tolerated during the study period.

Animal studies conducted in the Sekhar lab have shown that restoring glutathione levels by providing GlyNAC reverses glutathione deficiency, reduces oxidative stress and fully restores mitochondrial function in aged mice.

"We worked with eight older adults 70 to 80 years of age, comparing them with gender-matched younger adults between 21 and 30 years old," Sekhar said. "We measured glutathione in red-blood cells, mitochondrial fuel-oxidation, plasma biomarkers of oxidative stress and oxidant damage, inflammation, endothelial function, glucose and insulin, gait-speed, muscle strength, exercise capacity, cognitive tests, gene-damage, glucose-production and muscle-protein breakdown rates and body composition. Before taking GlyNAC, all these measurements were abnormal in older adults when compared with those in younger people."

The older participants took GlyNAC for 24 weeks, and then stopped it for 12 weeks.

"We are very excited by the results," Sekhar said. "After taking GlyNAC for 24 weeks, all these defects in older adults improved and some reversed to the levels found in young adults." The researchers also determined that older adults tolerated GlyNAC well for 24 weeks. The benefits, however, declined after stopping GlyNAC supplementation for 12 weeks.

Honestly, Nestle has identified three separately useful supplements for addressing older age issues.

We also take nicotinamide riboside (not from Nestle), but not the urolithin A, at this time, but studies show urolithin A is helpful in a similar way to NAC.

I see that NOW has (pharmaceutical grade) 1,000 mg glycine caps.

Wondering if that would be too much.

That's not a problem amount for most people, especially if used with NAC, which helps generate the glutathione in our cells. However, a few people could note issues from too much glycine (rather more than these amounts):

I tried glutathion 1st but its not as effective as the NAC.

This is the lung clearing stuff they tried to label as a non starter for Covid relief but it is one of the good ones. Was taking it for its energy benefits long before Covid was introduced. I dont know what good thr glycerin does but I take NAC every day.

I am trying Carnivore diet. I love meat and have craved salt all my life and I think this counterintuitive step is helping. I still have carbs but very selective and minimized as much as possible. Just the exclusion of everything processed in a box with a packet of poison inside or frozen ready to eat crap has made a YUGE difference!

I haven’t tried U A yet either. I have been thinking about it for a few weeks, though.

It’s not true on multiple levels, NAC seems to be available everywhere except Amazon. Glycine is no problem anywhere.

No need to apologize, you(I think) had already posted this previously. I dug up these two references back then-

I forgot to mention, I had been ta,ing glutathione in a nebulizer while I had covid. It was a bit, hard to inhale, but it seemed to break up the congestion in the lungs. I had tried nac in the nebulizer too but it was too harsh, likely had soemthing in it that didn’t vape well. Anyways, my lungs cleared out pretty well, with lots coming up (not to,get too graphic). I had started to struggle with breathing, and remembered reading about nebulized glutathione, and so decided to give it a try, going very slow at first. It seemed to work, so,I kept going. Only did about 8 treatments. The first 3 were like only a 1/4 pill worth.

I wouldn’t recommend to others of course. It could had a bad reaction, but fortunately it didn’t. It’s “supposed to,be” very beneficial to lung issues such as copd, emphysema and viruses. In my experience, it did seem to,loosen the congestion quite a bit, but I also, was taking copd meds at the same time, so,it could been that that helped, so not sure what helped.

Don’t over do,it. You can get too much protein, and it can cause some conditions. Everything in moderation. I have done carnivor diet for 40,years (but only eat 2 meals a day), but I also have other things too, jusy not as much as I used to. When there is an issue, it will, show up,inmthe urine. Too much protein can be bad for the kidneys

The capsules in the “Nature’s Fusions” product has both the glycine and N-acetylcysteine formulae. I want both in a properly balance amount. I want it in one capsule. I will search for the magic preparation with the best price.

Glycine and NAC are both available, though our beloved FDA is starting to limit the sale of NAC.

From Wiki-
Sulfur is one of the core chemical elements needed for biochemical functioning and is an elemental macronutrient for all living organisms.
