Meteorites are not ‘flaming rocks of doom,' NASA says
The “bright fireball” was traveling at 35,000 mph when it exploded at 8:03 a.m. with the “energy equivalent of 3 tons of TNT,” according to NASA Meteor Watch, the agency's project that tracks fireball activity.
“Existing law states that any meteorites belong to the owner of the property on which they fell; out of respect for the privacy of those in the area, we will not disclose the locations of these finds,”
And finding anything of value is likely harder than you think.
“The pieces from this object were way too small to leave a crater. Unlike what you see in the movies, meteorites are not ‘flaming rocks of doom’ that blast holes in the ground. In fact, you can pick one up right after it hits ground. So no smoking rocks in small craters.”

Today was a strange one, but you guys did a good job!!
That segment from Nature was part of a film on just cats of the world and how they were adapting to man and the loss of natural habitats.
Excellent information on the special animal friend! Thanks!
You’re welcome. I’m back from taking Frank and Kathleen to the dentist. Soon it will be naptime.
Naptime is always good!!
Too cool! Thanks...
Took me four tries today.
It was the Kate Daniels series. Not historical, urban fantasy. I thought that was what she was after but the historical part threw me.
Apparently to her if you have horses and swords it is historical.
LOL! I guess it makes a certain childlike sense.
Four tries is good! It seems to be the average for most of us so you're in excellent company.
Is Shannon a Maine Coon? I love those cats. (Of course, I just love cats.)
We had one when I was a kid who was at least part Maine Coon. She lived to be 20. She was a delight and was quite chatty. She didn’t like baths, though. She got into the crawl space in our house while my dad was working on something and got insulation on her. My mom gave her a bath to be on the safe side. I wasn’t home for this (or I would have been the designated bath-giver), but I was told she yowled mightily all the way through it.
You’re welcome!
Shannon is a domestic shorthair.
I was going to have a Maine Coon but he didn’t like me, so we parted ways.
Kathleen and I went to the hardware store and priced out the PVC components for the archery target stands. I expect we can get a better price from a plumbing supplies warehouse or website.
I’ll do some math, and then email a proposal to the head of the Shooting Sports Committee. Maybe the supplies would be donated if the Council asked.
Turned out to be Aesop's Fables.
There are many uncertainties in this world but I feel confident in saying that Aesop was not a Christian. Since he lived about 600 years before Christ was born.
Still a good book and one that I consider a foundational work for civilization.
Sometimes sporting goods shops can be induced (coerced?) into donating the supplies you need. Of course, the press would have to be involved. ;o]
Well, there were Christians before Christ was born, if you count the Old Testament Prophets! But yeah, I get your point. There were quite a few philosophers who were very moralistic in their teachings.
I always liked Aesop’s Fables!
We just need PVC and some glue for this project, so it’s a hardware or plumbing store matter. The actual targets have to some from a sporting supplier, but the stands were homemade. They’ve just fallen to pieces over the years, from use and heat/cold/sun exposure.
Kitteh is singing:
Happy Birthday to you!
Happy Birthday to you!
Happy Birthday dear Tax-chick!
Happy Birthday to you!
His voice is in fine form but he can’t hear himself sing!
I hope you have a really great day!
Thank you. We are, in fact, older today. My mother phoned. Sally says Elen will probably call, but she’s confused about what day it is because Japan. She might call tomorrow thinking it’s yesterday.
You’re most welcome!
That sounds like the dialog between Radar O’Reilly and the Colonel! But I got it!
