Pieces of ‘fireball’ meteor that exploded over Mississippi are being found, NASA says

Meteorites are not ‘flaming rocks of doom,' NASA says

The “bright fireball” was traveling at 35,000 mph when it exploded at 8:03 a.m. with the “energy equivalent of 3 tons of TNT,” according to NASA Meteor Watch, the agency's project that tracks fireball activity.

“Existing law states that any meteorites belong to the owner of the property on which they fell; out of respect for the privacy of those in the area, we will not disclose the locations of these finds,”

And finding anything of value is likely harder than you think.

“The pieces from this object were way too small to leave a crater. Unlike what you see in the movies, meteorites are not ‘flaming rocks of doom’ that blast holes in the ground. In fact, you can pick one up right after it hits ground. So no smoking rocks in small craters.”

We are back.

What did we learn this weekend?

Well... we learned to be very specific about what we tell the younger ones.

When telling them that red heads should put on the stronger sunscreen you should clarify that they should put it on their skin, not in their hair.

Their mom claims they did it in all innocence. I have my doubts. :)

I also learned that my squirmy little one will sit quietly for well over two hours in order to get a young bunny to come within grabbing distance.

She leaned that young cottontails, when grabbed, will scream. Loudly.

All in all it was a bunch of fun.

She loves it. She can’t finish the transition to her new food fast enough. Since the bag is 22 lbs (we used to by 11 lb bags) it won’t fit in the container we have. She just stands by the bag of new food and sniffs it whenever we let her.
