Pieces of ‘fireball’ meteor that exploded over Mississippi are being found, NASA says

Meteorites are not ‘flaming rocks of doom,' NASA says

The “bright fireball” was traveling at 35,000 mph when it exploded at 8:03 a.m. with the “energy equivalent of 3 tons of TNT,” according to NASA Meteor Watch, the agency's project that tracks fireball activity.

“Existing law states that any meteorites belong to the owner of the property on which they fell; out of respect for the privacy of those in the area, we will not disclose the locations of these finds,”

And finding anything of value is likely harder than you think.

“The pieces from this object were way too small to leave a crater. Unlike what you see in the movies, meteorites are not ‘flaming rocks of doom’ that blast holes in the ground. In fact, you can pick one up right after it hits ground. So no smoking rocks in small craters.”

The Icelandic version doesn’t track streaks, I’ve got a 98% success rate.

I’ve played 120, longest streak (current) is 36 and Win is 91%.

So I came in late, ok? ;o]

Yeah, I don’t care what time of day it is, as long as I can see them to either squish them or give them the ZOT with Hot Shot. *shudder*

Nighttime, well, the fear is real.

“I just HATE spiders!”

I’m more amenable to some kinds.

The more venomous ones — it’s “open season”; Black Widows, et. al. — OUTSIDE ONLY, and even then, maybe not, depending.

INDOORS — I’ve been known to catch Wolf spiders and other common grey spiders and green spiders, and take them outside to a more expansive lifestyle among the foliage, but I don’t typically get out of my chair except to verify what type of spider it is crawling up the corner of the walls. If I recognize one of the benign species, I may just let it be, figuring I’ll let it harvest it’s fill of dust mites for the time being. My kids point one out to me, I’m apt to say, “Oh, that’s my house spider; just let it be for now.” They usually end up outdoors at some point, but I’m not one to get exercised over it.

I have not seen a “benign” specie of spider since I got here. I’m familiar with black widows and have dispatched them post haste. But these are a little more insidious and scarier, and with my health problems and age, I wouldn’t want to take odds on who would win the fight. So I’m up for everything I can do to send them to that big spider web in the sky.

More traps, more Hot Shot!

So, suddenly I’m thinking of Victor Borge’s “Inflationary Language.”

What about beten spiders?

Good morning, Kitteh FRiends! There will be a gap in Morning Kitteh service while I go to Webelos Camp with my youngest daughter. Kittehs will resume on Wednesday, barring disaster.

Time for cleaning the baby bruvver!

Good morning. I hope you slept well.

The late Igor used to say, “A change is as good as a rest,” so maybe this little time off with Kathleen will be restful for you.

Nothing will be done here today except me pretending to be a slug.

The orange kitten is from yesterday, and the other one has a different mother but was adopted by the calico mom when the rescuer was asked to take in an orphaned kitten.

Pretty well. The cat on the pillow didn’t happen until after 5:30. I dreamed that Sally had let Good Teeth Boy move back in with her, also two scruffy young men with a lot of musical equipment and a miniature horse.

It was weird, but I know Anoreth wouldn’t put up with any of that.

Awww...what a sweet kitteh story!

I suppose, if I want a cat on my pillow, I’d have to lift ol’ Fatty Lump-lump up. The bed is almost too high for me, but I needed the room underneath for storage. The alternative is to find her a Cat Cave, all soft and snuggly.

What an odd dream! Anoreth is too level-headed for anything like allowing Good Teeth Boy to move back in, regardless of his entourage and Sally’s possible protestations.

Good morning and Happy Saturday! I hope everyone has a nice weekend.

ArGee, I hope your F-I-L’s elbow is doing better and ‘Face, I hope you are feeling well today.

I’m off to run errands before it gets too beastly hot out there.

Here’s my effort for today. I’m getting a little better at remembering which letters have been used, but it sometimes doesn’t mean much in grand scheme of things!

Sometimes, the last try is brutal.
