Ukraine really does have a far-right problem, and it’s not a fiction of Kremlin propaganda. And it’s well past time to talk about it.
Ukraine’s far-right is like a hydra, with ugly heads that pop up far too frequently. Just within the last few weeks, an American-born cabinet minister thanked a group of violent neo-Nazi “activists” for their services, a soldier was photographed wearing a Nazi death’s head patch right behind President Petro Poroshenko and almost 1,500 neo-Nazis and friends threw a two-day Hitler-salute-fest.
Ukraine’s notorious Azov movement keeps growing. Since it was created in 2014 to fight Russian-led forces in the east, it made news by accepting openly neo-Nazi members into its rank. Now the Azov Battalion has become an official Ukrainian National Guard regiment. In 2016 the group formed a political party, which, they claim, now has tens of thousands of members. Earlier this year they unveiled a paramilitary force that doubles as a street gang.
Even as their party polls barely a percent, Azov is trying – as one of their higher-ups has told me personally – to build a far-right “state within the state,” running everything from nationalist study groups and mixed martial arts training to free gyms for youth and programs for the elderly. They’re also trying to turn Kiev into a capital of the global far-right, inviting neo-Nazis and white supremacists from around the world to visit.

I think you are lying.

Sure, except they hold 20% of the positions in the military and law enforcement.
Neo nazis, pashaw, just media hyperbole. I am not saying its aliens, but its aliens
Zelensky has spoken out against Nazi supporters in Ukarain. I do not believe he is in any way a nazi, but the fact even he sees the problem, however small or isolated, is telling.
BTW- to simply say someone could never be a nazi because they are Jewish...well...Helmut Kohl says hi.
The SS recruited well in Ukraine. When Poland was taken by Russia in 39, so was Ukraine. The Germans had no beef with Ukrainian people and they both shared a common enemy, the bolshaviks.
When Putin talks about the Nazis in Ukraine, he’s actually not wrong. But some ideas are so far out of scope (the paradigm) that you need time for people and a learning curve to catch up before you can even mention it.
Likewise Ukraine is not a democracy, you don’t have free speech there, or a rule of law... So many of these higher moral causes that are mentioned as justifications for our intervention on the side of Ukraine are just BS.
But it will take time... There was such an onslaught of one sided reporting early on that you now have a “perception” that was created.
Most Americans didn’t even know where Ukraine was on a map until this conflict. All we know is from a media that has an agenda. It seems war is America’s geography teacher.
Although just as in 1945, nazi is not far right. It is revolutionary socialist with a red banner.
“Take your Neocon urges up with the editorial board of the Forward.”
This response is not even vaguely germane to what I posted.
Unhhh, because the deep state media minions can only process one narrative at a time?
Right now there is no room for anything other than Putin bad.
darn lack of an edit button!
“victim of transphobic violence”

The Forward appears to have a rather leftist orientation and history...
Thank you for your post
.
Congress is working for you though.
The middle class has not been forgotten!
Congress is working on a $1.5 Trillion omnibus with Funding for Covid and Ukraine - and they’re working on a Lynching Bill!
No joke.
Anti-Lynching and more Trillions and more Crisis Spending!
There is no recovering from this Debt. Has FOX News told you how much Joe Biden has spent per day?
.
Because, nobody really cares about the Biden/Clinton/Kerry/Pelosi/Romney money laundering machine -- or the US biolabs in Ukraine that have been creating the next pandemic that Bill Gates is so excited about. Orange man bad! Short man bad!
“For the purposes of this topic a ‘Neo-Nazi’ is anyone who thinks it’s wrong for the Russians to use military force to try to recreate their Soviet Empire.”
That is dead spot on. In America, a NAZI is anyone who beleives in the Constitution, limited government, and vited for Donald J. Trump or attended one of his Nuremberg rallies.
“Ukraine’s notorious Azov movement keeps growing. Since it was created in 2014 to fight Russian-led forces in the east...”
So doesn’t that mean that Russians are the invaders/occupiers not the Ukrainians? Maybe that’s why no one cares about Ukrainian politics right now. Ukraine has been invaded by Russia and not for the first time in this century.
Hunter Biden was very familiar with Ukraine long before this war broke out.
I don’t understand your Helmut Kohl reference. Are you suggesting that he was Jewish and/or a Nazi?
Flat out incorrect
“Likewise Ukraine is not a democracy”
This is only true of the portions of Ukraine occupied by the Russians.
The part of Ukraine that remains under Ukrainian control is normally governed by a parliamentary government and the members of that parliament are elected by popular vote in their various districts.
