United Airlines, the only major U.S. airline to own a flight school, will begin accepting applications today as it embarks on an ambitious plan to train 5,000 new pilots by 2030, at least half of them women and people of color. Backed by scholarship commitments from United Airlines and JPMorgan Chase, United Aviate Academy will create opportunities for thousands of students, including women and people of color to pursue a career as a commercial airline pilot, one of the most lucrative careers in the industry.

Well..there goes air travel safety
Will never fly united
I am beginning to take a second look at Hertz as my land airline of choice
So Trans-guys are ok for this program?
That’s ridiculous....
When will the NBA enact a similar program
Quick...sign up to join the growing field of airplane crash Investigators
Bingo. Diversity above all else including the ability to actually and skillfully fly a plane?
No thanks. I haven't flown United in well over 20 years now since I no longer fly for work related travel and I'll be damn' sure not to fly them going forward.
“Get woke, go broke” takes on a new meaning.

Affirmative Airlines
As a woman who was a flight attendant for over 25 years, I will say that I PERSONALLY saw incompetent people pushed through, dragged through, excused through flight training that should NEVER have been near a cockpit. I PERSONALLY saw many MANY competent pilots (white male obv) who were repeatedly passed over so that a sub par female or other category was hired.
One woman was so terrible that she started sleeping with someone WHO WORKED FOR AN AGENCY DEALING WITH AIRLINES to not wash out. I think it was found out in the end and he was reassigned. Not sure what happened to her.
This will not end well. Look for mass retirements to occur at the very least.
And where in the heck are they gonna find all those women and People O’Color for their precious flight school?
Especially those who have the skill, knowledge, and intelligence for you to let them take the yoke of a multi-million dollar aircraft with a bunch of people on board...
Good luck.
Agree. This has been a practice of United for a very long time, don’t let this fool you. There is a reason why they are known as “Yo-nited”. Having worked with mostly airline guys in the Air Force Reserve, I have seen folks from all the airlines. United, by far, hired the worst pilots I have known-It just so happens that most of them were of the various minority groups. Yes, there are horrible white pilots as well. But my microcosmic experience parallels Cowgirls.
It's like today's commercials.
While I don't watch very much TV, when I do, I notice that there are more multi-racial and black couples than white couples doing commercials for autos and home products.
I live in W PA, and while there are some multi-racial couples in real life, it is nothing like TV.
In other news, the big airlines promised to remove all white paint on the exterior and interior of their planes....
Experts explained that the white paint was the result of deep systemic racism and needed to be eradicated.
When critics suggested that white paint may have been used for safety reasons, the airlines explained “who cares if folks die because of the change—you have to break a few eggs to make an omelette”.
:-)
Making sure I don’t have any United stock....
