Democrat nirvana . No parent involvement in raising of their children. Let the nanny state turn their kids into drug dealers and prostitutes! Then throw them crumbs, like a BS stimulus check to guarantee another Democrat vote!

“...but his transcripts show his class rank is 62 out of 120. This means, nearly half his classmates...”

“...his class rank is 62 out of 120.”

That’s not in the top half.

Close enough for government work.

The unbelievable thing about this story is that it is written as if this kid is a one off. He's near the top half of his class with a near-negative GPA.

How Republicans are unable to make hay of this is beyond me. But then, they're racists, so maybe they're okay with black kids going to school for 12 years and coming out completely uneducated.

My sister and my b-i-l do substitute teaching in Baltimore County. They say it's not unusual to have seniors in high school who cannot read or write; they have just been socially promoted through the grades. No problem, yet they will be making $15.00/hour ! You have a problem with that?

"We hold schools and staff members accountable."

Now, that right there is the best joke I've read this morning...

Sending the kid back to 9th grade? Eh...no. Send him to get his GED.

My oldest son graduated with honors, a STEM distinction, went to State for Academic Decathlon, and went to Regionals for UIL in History and again for Constitutional Law. Finishing his BA then on to law school.

My middle child graduated with honors and distinctions, and won a teacher’s choice award for Excellence. Scored at Mastery level on all STARR exams. Going to college in the fall.

My youngest sends me snapshots of the grade portal on a regular basis; he was devastated when his perfect A average was interrupted by a bad test grade that brought his biology grade down to a B. He immediately sought extra help.

I homeschooled my children on and off during the years. The greatest gift I gave to them was to develop their love of independent learning. Must be that white privilege I hear so much about.

I can’t imagine an environment where a child can miss almost an entire year of days and still pass. What meth head administrator implemented that outrageous policy? Oh, that’s right; let’s teach young people that actions don’t have consequences.

Sounds like this mom had zero interest in helping him with schoolwork or school activities. Don’t blame the 3 jobs. She needs to look in the mirror as well. The school dropped the ball as well. No innocent victims here.

Why were so many absences never known by the mother. If she was truly working three jobs to provide for her family, then she cannot be labeled as a dead-beat mother. She has to have a free Obama phone so what happened to those alleged automatic every morning phone calls following a reported absence? Either mom ignored the calls or perhaps her workplace forbid phone calls when they were made. Yet her call history should have documented the missed calls. Or there is another real possibility. The calls were never made even though the school officials maintain they are automatic. I am betting they never happened because a system that will promote a failure to the next grade will lie about the calls. A kid can’t learn if a kid isn’t in school.

Brains mature at different rates.

Some brains are more, or less, developed in certain areas.

It would take more care and concern than we as a nation have to fix this.

I’ll assume you were joking and your math skills are sufficient to make that calculation correctly. Next time remember the /s
