Lol no it’s not that Spunky. What they should have said was they still wear a mask because they are virtue signaling and they want to feel good because people will THINK they are doing it because they’re caring, but they all know it’s a waste of time.
Lol
Barky often comes to AU games, both football but especially basketball games. My brother and SIL often work security for those games. Barky recognizes them and often exchanges small talk. He is known for his charitable works here. I betcha he does know how he touches and affects others’ lives. He is the real deal.
Touching story about your nephew. It only takes a few kind words of encouragement to change a young person’s life forever.
“Donald Trump unleashed on political enemies and betrayers at a dinner to Republican National Committee members at his Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach on Saturday night. The event was closed to the press, thus, video of the former president’s speech was not immediately forthcoming. However, we know from widespread reporting from credible sources what was said at the speech. Let’s just say there was a reason it was closed to the press.
Trump hammered ‘RINOs’ who refused to object to the 2020 election results; but he displayed special disdain for Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. He called him a ‘dumb SOB’ with no abbreviated language (the ‘B’ being a naughty word rhyming with Mitch).
“If that were Schumer instead of this dumb son of a bitch Mitch McConnell they would never allow it to happen. They would have fought it,” Trump ranted.
It’s true, despite the protestations of The Washington Post and its ilk, which reported on the event. The Democratic Party objected to completely legitimate elections held in 2000, 2004, and 2016.
Trump wasn’t done, however. He also hurled animus and invective at Mitch McConnell’s wife — former Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao.
“I hired his wife. Did he ever say thank you?” Trump asked rhetorically. Chao resigned in protest after the Capitol riots on January 6th.
“She suffered so greatly,” he said, mocking her resignation. He also called her husband a “stone cold loser.”
The former president railed against Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, while pressing his case that he had won elections in swing states, such as Georgia and Pennsylvania.
“Bullshit,” he said of the election, drawing applause upon asking the room if they thought the election was ‘stolen.’
“I wish that Mike Pence had the courage to send it back to the legislatures … I like him so much. I was so disappointed,” Trump also said.
He even got in jabs at Dr. Anthony Fauci during the estimated hour-long, impromptu speech.
“Trump attacked many of his favorite targets, such as Anthony S. Fauci, the country’s leading epidemiologist, even mocking Fauci for his first pitch last season at Nationals Park — a frequent Trump taunt,” the Washington Post moaned. “He falsely claimed that Fauci only received credit because he opposed Trump, an attendee said, and joked that Fauci wanted people to wear five masks after not initially supporting masks.”
Apparently a bunch of people (not just me!) were asking about the sandbags on the National Mall to the 'man about town' so he went down today to investigate.
I'll post what he said:
"Many of you have been asking me about sandbags on the National Mall so I went out for a bike ride today to investigate. The only sandbags I could find were the ones guarding the emergency exits and vents for the Washington subway system due to flooding. This is a pretty common thing at some low-lying subway stations in DC that are subject to flooding in the rainy season (which is what is going on now). Many DC residents have been complaining about these things for years as they are sort of permanent in some areas. I managed to film some in Upper NW and by the Smithsonian but if there are some others on the Mall please let me know and I'll try to show those to you too. These and the ones in Cleveland Park were the only ones I noticed today. (Video of my bike ride coming soon--it was a really nice day today)"
He also posted a link for a Google search 'wmata sandbags'. Among the results is a Facebook post from 2018 talking about the sandbags around the grates are supposed to be replaced with permanent raised curbs. Guess it's taking a while...it's the government, after all! LOL WMATA sandbags
Another internet rumor bites the dust.
“a Facebook post from 2018 talking about the sandbags around the grates are supposed to be replaced with permanent raised curbs. Guess it’s taking a while...it’s the government, after all! LOL”
That is what I was going to say. It would look so much nicer. They could make cement seating area around some of them. But since these are open grates doesn’t rain still pour down inside? I know it stops the flood water, but I would imagine it rains pretty hard at times.
Some more Occam’s Razor findings. Good job.
We don’t have subways here, but we do have grates in the sidewalk for the underground transformers. I would think there would be the same issue but I never really thought about it. And Nashville gets more annual rainfall than Seattle!
I found a picture of a grate that had the concrete curbing when I was looking for the sandbag pictures. It seemed to be about shin high; maybe they didn’t want it tall enough for seating to keep the homeless from loitering?
I did find this about the NY subway system; there’s a cross-section drawing of the grates. Looks to me like they stair-step the ventilation shafts, plus install drainage. Maybe the drainage can handle normal rain amounts, but not floodwater? https://www.nycsubway.org/wiki/Chapter_05._Ventilation,_Drainage,_and_Waterproofing

If you ever served or you are a true Patriot you will get teary eyed when you watch this to the end.

In light of the events of the last few weeks. I would suggest that you view the following video, and then pass it on to all your friends, with the suggestion
that they do the same. This is the true spirit of America, one which we CANNOT allow to be lost.

Thanks, Moving tribute by young man
I’ve decided I need to quit my job as a personal trainer because I’m not big enough or strong enough.
I’ve just handed in my too weak notice.
Amen. Thank you.
Beautiful. Thank you. Bless that young man.
