Why Are Links Not Working?

I have been posting articles on FR off and on for 22 years, and in that time I have become very good at using HTML to create the type of posts I like. Yet ever since FR changed the carrier of the site, none of my links work on articles I post. I have not changed what I use as HTML code, it's just that what I use does not work on FR any more. And not only links, but much of the HTML on my profile page is all screwed up as well.

Is there a logical reason for this?

I code the HTML in my word program and then copy it over to FRs posting

As in MS Word?

Maybe try a notepad/text editor. Copy from it and paste in the FR posting window.

So based on my earlier comment, I decided to explore disabling Smart Quotes on my iPad, and it turns out to be simple: Settings -> General -> Keyboard and then switch off the Smart stuff.

And now my apostrophe is ' and my double-quote is " and all is right with the world. :-)

I just looked at the source code for your link and you have

target="”blank”">

Two types of quotation marks must have been cut-and-pasted by mistake from another place or it may be what was added that breaks the link.

I saw that. For some reason freerepublic is prefixed to the addresses. It makes no sense that FR would do that to those but not to all the others.

%E2%80%9D is a quote and some junk. Must be in your source. You might have to look at the hex level or manually retype.

As a result of this thread I figured out how to disable Smart Quotes on my iPad, so Hooray and Thank You. Now my links will work without having to screw around.

You have extra occurences of double-quotes.

Yeah, don’t use an editor for html that inserts special characters for printer formatting.

It looks like they figured it out above.   Use only Notepad to setup your HTML instead of any other fancy word processor that could cause a funky interpolation when it gets to the newly hosted FR platform.   You weren't imagining it and it is probably happening to others.
