You may not be traveling to go swimming or see fireworks this weekend, but one thing is universal to July 4, even in the midst of a pandemic: hot dogs.
Whether you're having a few hot dogs yourself at home or tuning in to watch competitive eaters gobble up a few dozen in the annual Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest, hot dogs should be top of mind Saturday.
Even this yearly tradition isn't untouched by the COVID-19 pandemic; for the first time, the contest will be held indoors without any spectators, in Brooklyn, New York, rather than Coney Island.
And given how many people may be staying home this weekend in lieu of their normal holiday weekend travel plans, Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest may see a corresponding bump in ratings. In 2019, the ESPN broadcast brought in nearly two million viewers, according to NathansFamous.com.

Cause it’s a part of Americana. Also getting pleasure seems to really annoy killjoy whiners.
great movie
last time i liked baseball was 14 and i was a met fan. :)
Never really got the point of that movie but it was just cool to watch. :) Won medals in the military but couldn’t take orders outside of it. odd.
“what we got here is a failure to communicate...” that part is played at the beginning of one of my favorite songs :)
I keep thinking about celebrating sloth, but I just wind up putting it off.
From what Chestnut explained after breaking the world record - the crowd usually helps him after about dog #6. Didn’t happen. Looked like it was inside - with AC? No idea. Chestnut also said that the hot dogs were much better since they were cooked closer to the contest start. In most years, Nathan’s has to cook about 1000 dogs for the contest. This year, with fewer competitors, it went smoother.
LOL!
Wolfing down several dozen hot dogs in a speed and quantity contest is no part of Americana, especially televised. If you enjoy gluttony by all means indulge yourself but I have no desire to watch that.
On the article link all I get is a basketball game.

Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest 2020: Joey Chestnut Sets Record with 75 Hot Dogs
Joey Chestnut won the 2020 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest on Saturday by eating a world-record 75 hot dogs to capture the famed mustard-yellow belt for a 13th time.
Chestnut has won the annual Independence Day showcase on five straight occasions and has only lost once since 2007. Matt Stonie, who was among the contenders who couldn’t attend this year’s event because of restrictions related to the coronavirus pandemic, pulled off the upset in 2015.
Miki Sudo crushed the women’s competition with a record-setting 48.5 hot dogs and buns for her seventh consecutive pink belt. Sonya Thomas, a three-time champion, held the previous mark of 45.
No idea. It’s over now. Look for replays.
The hell it isn’t. Eating contests have been Americana forever. The county county fair staple back in the day. And of course in the end: IF YOU DON’T LIKE IT DON’T CLICK ON IT!
OK Karen.
“Wolfing down several dozen hot dogs in a speed and quantity contest is no part of Americana”
You’re not from here, are you?
I was born and raised in the southeast. I still reside there. This gross display was no part of anything here.
You’re the Karen. Coming onto a thread to just to make sure we all know you’re too to watch an eating contest. Well guess what: we don’t care if you’re too good for it. We’re enjoying our lives. Which clearly irritates you. Just like a Karen.
Go wolf down a couple dozen hot dogs then. I reply where I feel like replying and find the practice disgusting.
We only eat Sabretts natural casings.
Waa waaa
people are having fun
waaa waaa
people are enjoying their lives
waaa waaa
but I don’t approve
Yup. Karen city. Worthless whiner killjoy wanting to tell everybody else how to live their lives. And then mad cause we don’t care what you think. WAAAAAAAA
I watched it with great relish. Bun-dles of thanks.

Now, I’d watch like I’d watch NASCAR...for the crashes. In this case it would be for the choking/vomiting/ruptured stomachs.
Enjoy your 4th of July by wolfing down hot dogs until you puke, make sure to post video of your Americana here on this thread, lol.
