Wolfing down several dozen hot dogs in a speed and quantity contest is no part of Americana, especially televised. If you enjoy gluttony by all means indulge yourself but I have no desire to watch that.

The hell it isn’t. Eating contests have been Americana forever. The county county fair staple back in the day. And of course in the end: IF YOU DON’T LIKE IT DON’T CLICK ON IT!

Nathan’s promoter Mortimer Matz claimed that on July 4, 1916, four immigrants held a hot dog eating contest at Nathan’s Famous stand on Coney Island to settle an argument about who was the most patriotic.
